I'm sure that dogs can have xanax as well but not the same dose that you would take. I would not give your dog xanax without taling to your vet first because you could overdose him.

Xanax is a benzodiazapine type drug so it is in the same class as Valium but it is truly and anxiolytic, and does not work well as a sedative. If you dog is anxious during travel you should talk to your veterinarian, he may be able to help you with the dosing of xanax. Usually it would be safe to give a 40 pound healthy dog at least 0.25 mg of xanax up to three time a day. There is a wide dosing range so please talk to your vet first!! If your dog needs sedation, talk to your vet about other meds such as acepromazine ( as long as your dog hasn't had seizures.

I wouldn't sedate any animal for a trip a little Childrens benadryl will make them sleep though but watch doses for the size of dog I have a rott shepherd mix and I gave him a small dose of it when he was injured bad so he'd sleep and not feel the pain so bad in his injured leggs until I could get him to the vet.

Don't ever give medications to your pet without asking your veterinarian if it alright and what dose. Human meds do not always affect animals the same!!!

Call your vet, if you have been in within a year, they will give you a proper sedative; if you have not been in within the year, they may require an exam (in some states, you cannot legally dispense meds without an exam within a year.)

I did give my hyper dog xanax on a road trip recently....it calmed him a tiny bit, he fought it though. That's how stubborn he is. I would ask your vet what would work the best.

do no longer!! except you rather could. and relatively, given her age, no longer with out your vet's circulate-forward. rather frequently canine combat sedation, in straightforward terms zonking out while the trauma has exceeded. you ought to attempt including a sprint Rescue medical care to her water for 40 8 hours or so in the previous your holiday. in any different case basically make beneficial, in case you haven't any longer have been given a/c in the vehicle, you have some air coming in, do no longer go away her in the back in the great sunlight (various human beings try this, sitting up front in the cool on an identical time as their animals swelter in the rear of the vehicle), make customary stops for her, and once you stop, provide her water so her drooling etc. does not de-hydrate her (I had one that drooled continuous in the vehicle and he became into in genuine danger of dehydrating). you ought to go away the radio on low too to help calm her. i detect that highway holiday facilitates them to calm down (no lurching and a relentless engine notice) so in case you could save at bay the back roads, which will help. and customarily my undesirable visitors have been greater effective if we took our journeys on the hours of darkness. If she's used to a crate, you ought to nicely locate crating her, with a hide over the precise, makes her calmer - canine holiday greater effective in the event that they sense 'anchored' - and that's some distance safer too.
