Sounds like arthritis. Arthritis is caused by injury to the effected area. Since you say that she was abused it is possible. It can also be that she is just getting old and old animals like some humans get grumpy. For peace of mind I would suggest a check up at the vet. Tell the vet what she does and let them do tests and x-rays. That way you will know for sure.

I know exactly what this is, she has nerve damage in her legs. She needs to go to the vet ASAP. This is very serious, more and more infections will set in her bladder. I was a Vet Tech for 2 years, and have seen this before.

This sounds exactly like the symptoms my Siamese cat had several weeks ago and it turned out that she had a hidden abscess underneath the base of her tail. She was in excruciating pain and wouldn't eat. Take your cat to the vet immediately to have him/her checked out. My Siamese cat is 12 years old and unfortunately due to her age and surgery, she didn't recover. I had to have her put to sleep last week :o(

Sounds like she is tryiong to tell you to leave her alone for now. She, being abused, is still skeptical of people. She will warm up to you in time.
The walking backwards and lifting her foot are indications of abuse and she really needs to see a vet!!!

yes i do think that your cat was abused and she does need to be taken to a vet.you know that she may walk backwards because the people that owned her before hand may have threw somthing at her or kicked her causing her to back away.she growls because she is scared,or emotionally scared you may have to gain her trust.try every day little by little to spend a few moments with her.

The vocalizations your cat seems to be making may be associated with pain or nausea. Get her to the vet asap!
