I did when an illegal laughed at me explaining that the constitution gave him more rights and benefits than citizens. I looked into it and was appalled. This was after the march, I didn't know at the time what it was about.

I understand your anger, but the demonstrations were conducted by the loudest of the bunch. They make up only a minute fraction of the people in question.
I live in a community with a large population of Mexican immigrants, many of which are indeed illegal. They are not indignant. They do not think America owes them anything. They are good people working extremely hard to make a life for themselves and their families. That's the bottom line.
I think we need to overhaul the system and our policies, but I won't direct my frustrations at the immigrant population, illegal or otherwise. If I was Mexican and I wanted a better life for my family, I'd put them before American law any day.
And the bit about not learning English: in general, I seldom meet a Mexican that is not trying hard to learn. I've met countless that have become fluent in only a matter of 1 or 2 years. By the same token, I seldom meet a natural born American that is bilingual (myself included). But I'm trying hard to learn Spanish (not doing so well).
I think it's a shame that us Americans are, for the most part, monolingual. Most other 1st world countries raise children that speak 2 and 3 languages.
Instead of bitching about having to listen to a 5 second message in Spanish while fighting our way through an automated customer service line, we should shut the hell up or learn the language.

Jslewis81 - boy, do you say it like it is! Thank you for that very well thought out answer to this question. The May 1st demonstrations certainly pushed me to be more anti-illegal, as well. I was appalled at their demands of a country that they are not even in legally! I couldn't believe the way they chanted and flailed their flag around while desicrating the US flag. I want ALL illegal immigrants deported whenever they are found or whenever they emerge looking for handouts at hospital ERs, when registering their illegal children in our schools, when looking for welfare, when they are found to be using fake/stolen IDs, when they are found through police contact for other offenses, etc. I don't agree with GWB that it is impossible to deport them all - it is so possible and it is a challenge that I believe the citizens of the USA are up for, regardless of how long it takes, one by one, ten by ten, deport them! If they truly want to be in the USA they can apply legally. I also say hit the employers of illegals hard enough to make it no longer worth their while financially to hire illegals. Once the jobs are gone and the handouts and freebies are stopped, I believe the bulk of the illegals will turn around and deport themselves, over time. But, we have to be firm with them and no feeling sorry and giving in. No, they need to go home and fix their own countries so they can have good, decent lives there instead of feel that they need to go to the USA to have a decent life. We need to stop the gravy train NOW!

Why make demands as an illegal? When it's so easy to come to America and become American legally. America has always( since the birth of this country) welcomed people of other nationality's. What right do illegals have to make demands. Become an American legally, and maybe then I will listen to what you have to say. Until then get out of my country, go back to your own, and shut up.
As for speaking English. I have mixed feelings. When I lived in Italy I became bilingual. I learned there language. So I feel when people move to this country they should learn our language. America has a few secondary languages though. Spanish being one of them.

No it did not make me more anti-illegal. It made me more patriotic. Did you see them take our flag turn it upside down and then fly the Mexican flag above ours? That is ridiculous. It truly shows how ignorant some - I did say some of them really are. I know alot of them were kids from school doing that type of thing but is that our future? People who will not respect the laws we have in place they tell us to go back to Europe, because we are illegal ha ha ha, that is hillarious, lets say that we do all of us to the so call african americans go to africa, the asians go where they're from so on and so forth, America will turn into another Mexico, then it will be the Canadans haveing the problem we have. They just don't think when they make the comments and their true colors really show. The come here illegally right and they say we just want to work, and do the right thing and make our lives better. How do you make your life better if you start out doing something illegal? Doesn't make sense to me. To your answer where will it end, it will end when we take off our gloves and physically stop them from comming while at the same time punish the employers for hiring them. Once we start to that then the end is near. Next you have to go after the mexican president and his country that he needs to get ahold of his country cause if not then the people that we capture we will put them in prison camps and will start charging their country for keeping them their, if he doesn't pay up then we will charge people comming into and going out of the border so that we have income to support that sort of operation. We will put a tax on anything that we send to them. Once the wall is built we should shoot if not capture those who jump that wall, give them all the notice that they need so they understand what will happen if they jump the wall. And what I mean by shoot is have sniper stratgically placed out their and if a patrol is close enough to get them let them get them put if they are comming across in herds lay them down. It would also be good to have them out there so we can physically stop the mexican army (ha) when they cross to help smuggle drugs, and yes they've been on our land here in the US illegally bet you haven't heard much of that on the news. People need to open their eyes an realize that if we allow them to come in and take our jobs they will eventually move us out of the way. They've started with the service type jobs, next they will move up and start taking manager jobs, and do you know why its because they will be willing to get paid less. Which will eventually come back to us and it will mean that the jobs that our kids will want, they have done they will be getting paid less than what we did. Its a cycle, so open your eyes and fight against the amnesty, fight for what our immigrant forefather put together. Yes everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursute of happiness, but they have to do it legally. I don't have the right to go and steal a car cause it will make me happy, you have to work for what you may think will make you happy. Heres a question for all of you. Do you think we could get away with going into mexico illegally and start a protest waving our American flags around saying we want to be able to vote we want all the same rights that you all have? Do you think we could get away with desecrating the mexican flag? Do you think if we started sending our homeless people, and poverty stricken people into mexico that they would help them like we help the illegal immigrants that come into this coutnry? You tell me.

Let em work give them fair pay and send em back if they don't want to assimilate, learn english and give up the mexican flag.
If they do want to stay - get legal and get on with being an American.
We don't need a divided culture with two languages.
That would be the begining of real trouble for the US as it has been in history for other countries. Look at Europe and the Muslims.
In general I think all immigration should be reduced because the US is just about full of entitled poor people and the only people who really benefit by it are the fat cats who need dirt cheap labor to create their fortunes.
I used to work in canneries and the fields as a kid in high school alongside mexicans and asians. It's good honest work for young people. Immigrants are good people trying to better themselves but they need to be legal.
Too bad young Americans won't work in agriculture anymore - it's a sign of our material and spiritual decadance

I think that all people who enter this country illegally, should be sent back as the criminals they are. I am sick of Americans having few rights and the illegals being giving all sorts of rights and benefits. Why should they have any rights? They are not, even, supposed to be here! They think that America owes them everything. We, American taxpayers, are supporting them and we have no say about it. Our money goes to these criminals, rather than helping Americans who need help. I would much rather my tax money go to feed a hungry American child, or an elderly person who can't support themselves, than support adult criminals. That is what is making Americans so angry. Many of us can't afford health care and yet these criminals get it free! With jobs lost, many families are barely able to feed their families and, yet again, they get food stamps and welfare checks. Time to put a stop to this!We need to support our own first!

I agree with what you say, especially when you say "How dare they"......I used to be illegal-tolerant, but this has definitely swayed me more anit-illegal, however I try and remember that some are here for better opportunities and felt they had no other choice. I find it odd that they thought their country was so bad and they fled here, and now our country is not good enough for them either! Thats crazy! Only in America can you march and protest if you are breaking the law!

I have always been in th opposition, but sice that day it has become a Crusade for me. It only served to polarize the people to further extremes in my observation. Each side getting more angry. But only the Mexicans resort to violence throwing rocks at an old woman peacefully demonstrating in Orange County at another rally.
The illegals were sickening that day and the traitors who aid and abed criminals make me sick too, they should be rounded up. We needed prop 187 English Only for Ca. I would vote for it again. I will campaign for the Son of 187 soon to come out. This time we will win. Sit back and look out for operation ******* II. I think we should start asking the government to round up these millions of the illegals and send them back to Mexico.

These people are foolish and whomever may lead them to whatever extent, is just as foolish and ******** in their thinking. It frightens me to think these people could be made citizens through amnesty. Outside of illegal immigration, those actions you mention, the masked faces and the turn to violence underscores how little these people understand our system or how little they respect it.
They are soon to be out of here.
If not there will be blood in the streets for sure.
Our gov. guys better take the cue and start a program to remove these outlaw illegals. Realize who and what they are and escort them out. Close the door and borders behind them
We don't need to fall to that level they live and breed on but we do need to remove them from any permanence in our society until they agree to come here the legal way, swear allegiance to the USA, learn to speak Engish and most importantly, honor and obey our laws!
