Have a doctor do a biopsy.
To know if you really need to worry about one, if it has changed color or size, or you it starts hurting or itching. Go in immediately, especially if you have any family history of melanoma.

YOU cant but a Dr certainly can dont muck around with moles i had one removed in Dec.05 diagnosed malinant since had lymph node removed and now spots on both lungs.see a Doc or skin cancer specialist they will map all moles on you and can keep track with regular check ups. Dont want to scare you but it is the most aggressive cancer and so far incurable.Good luck

A cancerous mole tends to have irregular edges, and sometimes different colors. A biopsy is the only way to be sure if it is cancerous or benign.

You need a doctor's diagnosis to know for sure. Some signs are an unusual shape, more than one color in the mole or sudden growth or hair growth in the mole.

I had 7 moles removed in February. My dr. thought they were odd looking and possibly cancer. The only way to tell for sure is to have them removed by a surgeon and then sent off to a pathologist for a biopsy. Luckily, mine were OK.

most times a mole that is cancerous doesn't have hair growing on it. It is not all the same color or it is bigger than the size of a pencil eraser

Is the mole a different shape than before? Are the edges irregular (misshapen)? Is it larger? Have a biopsy

Basically 1. if one half is not like the other half. 2. Irregular or poorly defined border, 3. Color varies from one area to another may include tan, brown red or blue, 4. larger than the eraser of a pencil. If you suspect any of these, then see your dermatologist.

If there is a sudden change in it's appearance you need to have it checked out. Changes is color, reddening on the skin around the outer perimeter, oozing... all are conditions that warrant inspection from a doctor.
