What do you mean by "everyday Americans"? Does that have to mean people in the majority? For example, African-Americans are absolutely "everyday Americans" - even though they are not in the majority. Even further, take a minority group that tends to vote for a certain party - such as gay atheist black democrats...are they not "everyday Americans"? Clearly, if by everyday Americans you simply mean part of the majority, then no, atheists are not. However, you have to realize that minorities *are* cross-sections of society in many many ways. Hispanics hold jobs with pay that ranges from below minimum wage to millions per month. So do atheists and agnostics. Blacks have small families, to medium families, to large families. Just like atheists and agnostics. Muslims are short, medium, and tall, just like atheists and agnostics.
So what if a certain group tends to vote for a certain party? Are they not still "everyday Americans"?

Any group within a society is a cross-section of that society. That's simple logic.
What gets me is how incredibly antagonistic those Republicans/Conservatives can get when faced with folks who don't think like they do. And they're supposed to be the "conservative" ones.
Ironic that it's the atheists who are more willing to accept and be tolerant of what others think or believe.

I am atheist I am more in the middle, I agree with republicans on some issues and democrats on some issues and neither on some issues. I do have a cousin who is a republican and agnostic. I know there are some conservatives/republicans who are either agnostic or atheist, but I think there are more who lean towards the liberal side that are.

Agnostic. I would be Republican if they would be more concerned with personal freedoms and state autonomy which they historically are for, but lately it seems that the party is shifting and just wants to meddle in everyone personal lives (women's choices, what is taught in schools, gay marriage). Where did the party take this horrible turn towards pushing religious beliefs onto the citizens of this free nation? Anyway, I am against the Democrats too since they want to give all of our money away to crackheads on welfare, to ruin health care, and impose harsh gun-control laws.
If you equate being conservative with adhering to mainly Christian ideals like creationism, anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, anti-stem cell research, then how could an agnostic be those things? But if you equate being Republican or conservative with less government, more state autonomy, more individual rights and freedoms, less taxes, then I am one I suppose.

1. Athiests and agnostics are two VERY different things.
2. Hardcore Athiests are more controlling and conservative then a lot of christian fundamentalists.
3. Liberal is far from a small pool.
I am agnostic, but would in no way be called conservative. I just needed to clear up a few things you seem to be mistaken on.

And why are the platforms of Republicans, Conservatives, and Christians largely based on hatred of others? Namely Atheists, other religions, and homosexuals?
Atheism is based on reality and rational thought... 2 things that the aforementioned groups are largely lacking.

And how is a liberal not an everyday American? The last two presidential elections were split almost exactly 50-50.

I am a gnostic conservative Republican member of the NRA. I do not believe in the divinity of Jesus but in his lifestyle. I think that people push their beliefs way to far all of the time. This is where we get the extremist!

Frankly I think agnostics or atheists more than likely refuse to be affiliated w/ a party.

I don't say that I'm a "cross section of society". Do all the atheists you hang out with say that? Lame.
