I worked for an orthodontist..here's how it goes
When you show up for them to put the braces on, don't be nervous it doesn't even hurt. Afterward you mouth may be a little sore (nothing some tylenol won't fix)
Just avoid sticky chewy things, and take it easy the first few days you have them. And, remember how nice your teeth will look in the end!

I would go ahead and get some ortho wax to have on hand, as well as a product called Rincinol, which is carried by Walmart and drugstores. It is a swish solution that can help in the event that you have any rubs from the brackets. The orthodontist will also give you some wax to put over the brackets, which will also help with any abrasions.

If you have soreness, you can take Tylenol and be sure to have "soft" foods on hand, such as mashed potatoes and soups. You won't feel like chewing anything.

And, please, please, please be sure to use the Christmas tree looking brush to keep your braces clean as well as a prescription strength flouride toothpaste while your braces are on. This will ensure that you don't get the "white spots" from the tooth enamel breaking down after you have your braces removed.

Don't take this opportunity for granted. Many adults wish they had had the chance to get ortho, and also many regret that they didn't wear their retainers later, when their teeth all move back to their pre-orthodontia state. If you do everything the orthodontist says, then your treatment will progress. If you delay wearing the rubber bands or doing what he says, then you just make it harder on yourself. Just something to think about!!!

It's definately (spelling?) not the most fun thing in the world! I had them for about a year and a half, just got them off 3 months ago. I don't have a lot of advice, other than take REALLY good care of your teeth, gums, braces, etc while you have them. It is really helpful to do that. And right before your appointment, take some Advil or Ibuprofin or something. And have it on hand for a probably the next week or so. You will have some pain every time you get them adjusted, but you learn to live with it.

And be careful what you eat! hehe

It may take several weeks before you get used to them. Be patient. The pain will go away. Keep them CLEAN. Leaving food around the attach points can cause your teeth to rot! Use the little wire brush the Dentist gives you every day to clean away any food that stays behind after you brush. Stay away from soda and other garbage foods! I recommend a Braun Electric Tooth Brush. Good Luck!

Might want to buy some Oragel to numb your lips sometimes they can scratch and hurt for a few days this will go away on it's own though. Get ready for painful rubberbands that snap in your mouth. Oh, and not being able to eat corn on the cob!

Waterpik might be a good investment

once you get them on it does not harm yet you ought to flavor the glue it is gross. a pair hours later the soreness slowly starts. If it gets undesirable you will understand which you're no longer waiting to consume "regularly", wherein case you will would desire to consume delicate ingredients: mashed potatoes, soup, bread and so on. they in many circumstances do place the colour bands on the beginning up yet ask your ortho. in case you like gum, you would be tempted to attempt to chunk it with braces. do no longer! in case you may, FIRST make beneficial that's sugar unfastened gum: Orbit, Trident. (my ortho reported that) they're going to now and back provide you a catalogue of what to no longer consume, that's in many circumstances solid to persist with via fact a number of those ingredients smash your brackets and then your ortho will ask why it broke and it in many circumstances expenses better in case you smash too many. Have soreness relievers obtainable : ibuprofen(advil motrin), tylenol. in accordance with each individual the soreness can circulate away after a million-3wks and after tightening in straightforward terms a pair of days as quickly as you're used to them.

just be proud of them, dont try to hide them, smile as often as possible, and just remember that braces are cute and every kid I know, including me as a child, either wanted braces or glasses, so they will be jealous.
