Why would you rather argue that it is ok to be illegal, rather than apply for citizenship, or a work visa before you come (this requires a employer to be promising to give you a job) or if you are already here and doing something productive a FREE ACLU lawyer can easily gain you citzenship?

You are not asking them, but saying what almost all US citizens been saying for many many years,To me the ones who come here illegally are probably have committed some crimes from were they came from and that is why they do what they do,even if it is illegal

Even an ACLU lawyer can't get you into this country legally unless you fall into one of the following categories:

1- you have a legal relative in this country that is able to sponsor you. There are age and marriage restrictions on whom can sponsor whom.

2- There is a company that has met strict requirements to sponsor a visa. And by the way farm workers and blue collar labor do not qualify. They must be highly educated indiviuals and there cannot be other US citizens available to do the work. (Restaurant workers, landscapers, maids, farm workers, construction workers do not qualify for these visas).

3- You must be adopted by a us citizen before the age of 15

4- You must marry a citizen.

So if you want to come to this country legally over the age of 15, have no pending marriage proposals, no advanced degree, and no immediate relative that is a citizen you have no option.

And even if you are able to meet the requirement of having an immediate family member here it still takes 7-10 years for approval.

If it were that easy they would come here legally.

So let's give people a legal way to get here and then see if they follow the rules.

i may not have the right answer and possibly might offend someone. in reading the various answers to this question one stated that they were fleeing from poverty at home. so really lets break that down. they have no money, they know someone in the US who sends them just enough to get here, they come here and take up a job that someone already here could've done, they live in a two bedroom apartment that is housing god knows how many people. they don't speak english and wave thier countries flag and celebrate thier countires holidays (hello cinco de mayo anybody??) and sit there and protest and say we don't assist them in any way or that they deserve the rights that my ancestors have fought for and then want to sing our national anthem in other languages because they are too irresponsible to learn it in english our first language.
with all the recent protest i think the thing that bothered me the most is people are chanting in spanish or whatever thier particular language is and i saw alot of news on it and it showed people holding mexican flags up. if you want the rights you think you deserve, why are you holding a mexican flag? last i checked i live in the wonderful United States of America, where's Old Glory?

Many of them really are IGNORANT of these things, and the language barrier just exacerbates the problem. Plus, they don't trust the system, no matter how bad they want to be here.

The problems will continue...applying for citizenship will not fix anything, it would only be like putting a bandaid on an amputation.

You people think getting a citizenship is easy, you people don't know s**t. Quit pretenting you f****ts have all the answers, it's been this way for alot longer than you all, so quit *****'in. I work with and know many illegals, they are no different than you or me. So quit pretending that you all are better than them, cause your not. There are many illegals that do pay taxes, there are many exceptions that people like yourself don,t know about and only assume. By the way, f**k Hazelton and the rednecks who live there. F****ts. Have a bad day Hazelton rednecks and go screw yourselves.

citizenship is years away for immigrants. poverty at home draws them here(it would you too and it would me).your grocery bill is much lower thanks to them than it otherwise would be. A free ACLU lawyer for that? yeah right ! millions of illegals and maybe ACLU lawyers in the hundreds? or at the most a few thousand. Get on the band wagon there you uninformed redneck!

ACLU lawyers do not represent a single person normally! Usually they represent a group of people!

Most illegals already have a job provided illegally by an American company, who are illegal!!

And johnny is not right. he sounds like a typical republican who talks out of both sides of their mouths and want it both ways.

Illegals have it made??? You mean you Republican employers who hire them for slave labor, give them no benefits, have it made

I say bust up the Republican slave trade!

You have got to be kidding they do not want to work or pay tax, they do not produce anything except criminal activity drugs and prostition.
Why would they do that when they can keep suckling on the welfare tit of America and selling dope and robbing honest hard working citizens mostly whites. It is good for them, why would they turn themselves in, and they are criminals.

If it were as "easy" as you suggest, why, oh why would an individual go through such tribulations as an unwelcome 'illegal?' Me thinks that you may be over-simplifing the situation that most illegals in this country face... they are suffering and that ain't right!
