There's no sure way of knowing that "sodomy" was the sin committed in Sodom and Gomorrah (the word sodomy came from the tradition they were destroyed for their homosexuality, although this is found nowhere in the Bible), and Jewish tradition holds it was the greediness of the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah that was their downfall. Lot's daughters got their father drunk in order to sleep with him, because the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were the only lands they knew (and thus assumed they were the last females on earth), and wanted to repopulate the earth. Incestual relations weren't forbidden in the times of Genesis or Exodus because there were still few enough people it was ok, but by the time of Leviticus, God saw there was enough people that incest should be forbidden, so he outlined a series of laws of relationships that were forbidden from then on. To answer your question, neither homosexuality or incestuous relations were forbidden in the time of Genesis, so neither sin was really a sin at that time.

The sin of Sodom was NOT "sodomy" as in homosexuality. Those words and meaning were put in place only recently. Their "sin" was Pride, Glutony, idleness, and not helping the poor. It was not homoerotic relationships.

The "abomiation" before God were those things that took them away from worshiping Him by way of idolatry. Sexual relations was not part of the picture. Lot even offered up his daughters but the Angels did not condem Lot for wanting to do so.

There was NO word in the bible for homosexual relationships until it was translated into the King James. Because of the puritanical stance at the time they then had it put in place.

When Paul wrote Romans he put in his own biases. These are Pauls words and his own interpretation and not those of a prophet who was directed directly by GOD. Paul was only giving his own commentary type preaching in his letters.

Ezekiel was a Prophet who was direct messenger by God sent to warn the Israelites of what would follow them if they continued to disobey Gods commandments.

Who said homosexuality was a worse sin than anything else? It was not the TYPE of sin, but the AMOUNT of it that was condemned in Sodom. They were not just homosexuals, but they were totally corrupt. They were never going to change.

sin is sin...something that people don't seem to understand...

To Are You Crazy, there IS reference in the Old Testament concerning homosexuality being an abomination...it wasn't just in the new testament. I will post the verses...

Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

either way, it is irrelevant, there is no justification or covering of sins without the blood of JESUS CHRIST. We can try to say the Bible means this or that, or what ever. We can say it is up to private interpretation even...the sin of homosexuality is no worse than the sin of lying, the sin of lusting, the sin of murder, the sin of adultery...

The point is, SIN IS SIN, and there will be NO sin entering into heaven. Thank you, have a good night.

According to the bible, all sin is equal in the eyes of god. Christians use the excuse that the bible calls homosexuality an "abomination" as a means to further their belief system and create more hate mongers. To be a true follower of Christ one should choose a path of mutual respect and acceptance of their fellow man instead of pursuing reasons to dislike others, whether it is for their race, religion, or sexual orientation. In other words, stop using God to perpetuate your homophobic ideas, I don't think he would appreciate it.

First of all, I don't think that the actual sin of Sodom had to do with the homosexuals that beat on Lot's door demanding to have sex with the Angels who were his guests. I think that the most greivious sin of Sodom was that the people were greedy and self-centered and their aberrant sexual practices were just an outgrowth of them living apart from God in their minds.

Ezekiel 16:49 Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.

Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

As to what happened with Lot and his daughters, I've read a Hebrew commentary that says that since Lot offered his daughters to the sexual predators at his door God said "have them yourself" as a rebuke for his shameful action.

No. But homosexuality is denounced in many other parts of the bible. Trying to fertilize turds is futile.

Well, the Bible says, God called homosexuality an ABOMINATION; and that is the reason he destroyed Sodom and Gommorah.
So why don't you believe what God said?

What they did was pretty sick, but I don't see how it's relevant.

Although, I thought that him offering his daughters to the mob was a lot worse than what the mob was after in the first place.
