Hell ya - thats a lot per person!!What does it include though? and I'm assuming the hotel is a luxury resort type of hotel.
Questions to ask when considering a per person amount of that amount:
1. Is it open bar
2. Are hot and cold hors d'oevres included
3. Are all sercvice staff including bartenders fees included?
4. Is there any other room rental charge or is that it?
5. Flowers included?
6. Cake included? and cut up for no extra charge?
Watch out for the hidden 'extra charges' that hotels may charge for.
I would say a decent amount to spend per person for an elegant party is anywhere from $40pp to about $100pp. Although I've seen some beautiful weddings at beautiful places for less expensive. The United States Coast Guard in CT for example.
Also - whatever you do - do NOT take out a loan for your wedding day. You'll be paying back that $45,000 years after your wedding is over when you could have bought a new house, or saved for retirement, funded your future children's college, or even a new boat! Don't start your marriage with debt.
So like the other person said - if you can afford it and its not interfereing with your downpayment on a home, or paying back your student loans and someone in your family is rather wealthy - well then go for it!!
If you are not wealthy..that is WAY too much money for one day! Believe me - your day WILL be gorgeous no matter how much money you spend - its not about the $400 topiaries on each table its about marrying that special person and enjoying your day with your family and friends.
Don't have a wedding to 'impress'.. have a wedding to last forever in the hearts of all that attend. :)
Good luck!

One of the nicest weddings I ever attended was in at a private club Santa Monica. It cost $50.00 per person. If you are including in the price the music, photographer, videographer, and everything else related to a wedding, it probably isn't too much.
