Me! And my kids are VERY VERY well behaved! I agree with Heather W. I send my kids up to their rooms until I am no longer upset then call them down for their punishment... they sit there and wonder what is going to happen to them, that also is punishment to them!

I personally believe that children should be punished whichever way works for them. Time out doesn't work for my kids, but taking toys away and spanking do work. I mostly take toys away but when they need a spanking, they get it. I was spanked as a child, never abused. I moved in with my fiance when I was 17 and got pregnant a few months later. I also graduated with a 4.0 and I'm going to college next year. I'll be the first in my family to graduate from college. I didn't turn out bad from a few spankings when I was younger; I don't see how it will harm my kids either.

Mimi..If you mean spanking and hitting as punishment (discipline is teaching) then I must say I don't. However, if you aren't using that verse as a literal translation, ...I think it's important to be firm, yet democratic when disciplining children. It's also important not to spoil.

I do, but some people go over board. I learned about it in phsyc class. you should set some rules
#1 never spank a child when you are angry.
# 2 always give an explination for their punishment
# 3 love your child hug them adn explain that misbehavior results in consequences
# 4 be consistant you can't let them get away with something adn spank them when its' convienient to you.

The thing to remember is spanking is not for every lil infraction. It should only be used when a child is disrespectful for if they do not learn to respect authority they will not be good for society.
Also though it should sting a bit you should never do them harm if you do then your teaching them might makes right not just to respect there parents.

I believe in biblically disciplining children. I also believe more people would if they weren't afraid that they would be accused of child abuse. If someone loves their child, he/she should discipline from that love. Spanking is not bad.

not me. the bible was written thousands of years ago. that is outdated parenting advice. also, that quote is often misinterpreted. the rod was used to guide the sheep, not hit them.
you should never hit a child.

I agree!!!! what else you gonna do send them to their room, with the playstation, TV, DVD player, stereo, I-pod, computer. Kids today got it so good,, If they only knew. I will use a belt but not when I am mad, and not as hard as I can, but yes, if they got it comming, They get it!

I believe that it means to make sure you discipline your child....not beat them senseless.
