OK..I have been a life long charcoal user and have just received my first gas grill. What are the pro's and con's of using lava stones in the btm of the grill?? Will they keep the heat in longer or are they just for looks

They help to even out the hot spots, plus they give us that spatter and sizzle of fat drippings that are reputed to contain mucho carcinogens...Enjoy !!

Your gas grill needs to be seasoned before you use it...otherwise you will not like the flavor of the food.

They help with heat distrabution but also absorb grease and drippings that would other wise start fires in your grill.

There's nothing like charcoals with some hickory chips
