because being his lover means that he can have sex with you and have no feelings for you. being his girlfriend is about feelings.

Lover is something a lot more intimate and means a lot more than girlfriend really. A lover is someone that they can turn to no matter what and someone that they trust with all of their heart. Lover is actually the way that a romantic man would categorize someone that they feel so deeply for and that they are actually in love with a girlfriend is just someone that they are seeing,

Girlfriend = Mental (and physical too for the most part)

Well it would certainly seem that all he sees you as is a sexual object.Try abstaining from sex with him for a while,if he is genuine he will stick around,if he just wants you for sex then he will be no big loss to you if he doesnt !
