God revealed Himself far earlier than that.
He came to the earth (physically) by being born as a human in the person of Jesus Christ. That was about 2009 years ago.
He revealed Himself far earlier than that, in many ways and at many times to and through the Old Testament prophets, and even before that to Adam and Eve.
Read the Bible, it has all the answers.

Because man is selfish and greedy. We like to think that we are in control and able to accomplish things on our own. Serving God sometimes calls for sacrifice and we are not willing to do this.
