To me, I believe that the Germans re-invented beer. It tastes better than some of the stuff I've tried (domestic beers taste awful with the exception of Samuel Adams, Michelob, and Karl Strauss...a local brewery here in San Diego). And they stick with the 1513 purity law which has been going on for almost 500 years now.

Do any of you feel the same way about German beer? Just curious.

Not so much, no.
Beer was invented in either Egypt or Mesopotamia, and I will go so far as to say that the Belgians produce the best beer in the World (Chimay).

It's the US that is re-inventing beer.
The most beer produced in the World?
The US.
The most breweries of any country?
The US.
The strongest beers made in the World?
The US (Sam Adams Utopias is at 25%, Dogfish has one at 22% or 23% I believe)
There are US breweries doing all kinds of experimental beers, traditional beers, wildly cool yeast strains, etc.
The problem is that even as big as Sam Adams is, they still only make up a tiny sliver of the beer sold in the US. Most of the breweries in the US have virtually no market share and you never get to hear of them, let alone taste their beer.
All you hear and see is Bud, Miller, and Coors. Compared to them, yes...the worst German beer is better than anything they have to offer...but don't discount what's going on in the US craft beer movement. The more you look, the more amazed you will become at the quality and selection we have right here at home.

Cheers.

I agree wholeheartedly!! Actually, I love Heineken, which is from Holland, and I used to enjoy Lowenbrau which I believe is from Germany, but I haven't had any in a long time. And I'm not sure how "domesticated" they have become over the years, at least the imported stuff. I'd love to go over there and drink the real stuff, but, I agree with you, American beer sucks. Well, all except some I had at a bar in Saratoga Springs, New York where they brew their own, and one "Brewmeister"(sp?) brewed a delilcious dark beer and I'd love to go all the way back there for some more, but from Texas to there is a long way and I'd just as soon drink a whole lot less of this domesticated junk than travel all that way for more of the "home brew". God Bless you.

Germans definitely have it going on with beer. The American light lager style beer most Americans grew up on is just not really beer. BTW Sam Adams adheres to the purity law as well, that's why their beer rocks!
There are many great microbreweries in the US. Have you ever thought about checking out the Great American Beer Festival? It's held annually in Denver, last weekend in September. The generally host 300+ breweries and have around 1500 beers to sample. YUM! :)

I am a proud domestic beer drinker! I have funneled the best america has to offer from budweiser down to milwakees best light Ice. My sterotype of people who drink imported beer are that they are snobby. The only import Ive tried that I like is corona, the rest of that crap sucks.
