I'd almost understand if they spelled it like the American pronunciation sounds: "Dolly Lama". But why go out of their way to spell it like a surrealist Peruvian mammal?

To Executioner_ : The repeated misspelling of Dalai Lama as "Dali Llama" on this site and the deliberate use of an alternate spelling for "colour" are two very different things. I use "c-o-l-o-r" because that is the custom where I live, and to do otherwise would be an unnecessary distraction. It has nothing to do with laziness.

Because they sound it out and spell things phonetically. I believe Dalai Lama is Indian.

The Dalai Lama is a tibetan refugee living in India, he's not Indian!

We have a lama named dolly.

We also have an alpaca named lips.

Besides if this was a spelling test you should have told us sooner.

Because they`re uneducated morons.People today are generally too lazy to learn how to spell correctly - the Americans are the worst culprits - colOr instead of colOUr ,sulFur instead of sulPHur ,anEmia instead of anAEmia etc.
