Aluminum has excellent corrosion resistance and durability and is therefore not environmentally friendly by itself friendly but it is recyclable thereby making it possible to become enivronmentally friendly.

Okay, where have you been hiding? They are made of aluminum which can be reused if recycled, so yes they are environmentally friendly. In fact, in the 70's when cans were first made of recycled aluminum, you could tell which cans were made that way because the top of the can was tapered. Cans made with new aluminum were totally cylindrical. That's why today all the cans have that tapered top.
