It's just the arabic for "Peace be upon you".
It's traditionally used as a greeting by Muslims
The response is: Alaikum as Salaam ("and on you be peace")
And when you go to Indonesia, Even some Christian use it to say haiii to their Muslims friends…
(they say it’s a good word)
