yeah, so I need tickets for two 16 year olds to Los Angeles-but the thing is I don't have a lot of money to spend. Surrounding cities would do fine.

Southwest or Continental.
I have my nephew visit me here from Cali, and it only cost me about $200.

It depends on where you are flying from. Many airlines do not let unaccompanied minors take the last flight out if it is a connection flight.

If you are flying from New York, I recommend JetBlue. They fly to Burbank and Long Beach. Southwest also is good and flies into LAX and Ontario. Sometimes the major carriers such as American, United and Delta run specials. You can try their websites. But if the 16 year olds are flying anytime before Labor Day, I don't think there are any real cheap tickets. Right now air travel is at an all-time high, planes are fully loaded and capacity has been cut, therefore meaning higher fares.

Any child aged 5 or above may travel under unacommpanied status as long as the parents pay the small surchage for special handling. Paperwork is filled out for the individual child and they are always in the attendance of an airline employee until handed off at the end of the flight where the specified person meeting them must show identification. For 16 year-olds, this would be optional, most airlines would allow them to fly without the special procedures.

Many airlines now will not allow anyone under 18 to fly alone for legal and liability reasons. Check with the airline companies to see what their policies are. They have tightened down severely in the past few years on this issue.

This is a 2 fold question.

There are several ways to get cheap tickets. www.mytrip.com will give you the ability to choose from several routes and offer good deals.

Flying alone and being safe.. hmm!! this is not an airline question, but a question you have to answer for yourself. You will have to be alert and be smart and think on your feet. That is one of the best ways of being safe.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.
