Los Angeles now is very overcrowded and polluted, lots of illegal immigrants and consequently crime associated with that. The palm trees and weather are still beautiful, but sometimes the beaches get closed due to pollution. My vote for prettiest, safest and friendliest is Durango, Colorado. Second choice, Destin, Florida. I lived in LA, Durango and Destin, so I do have some knowledge of all three places.

Safest? L.A. is not the place for SAFEST. Whew, it has one of the highest crime rates in the country. It's really bad. Drugs, Gangs, etc.

Pretty? Well, the east side of our country has alot more green, like trees, bushes etc. We have mountains and there covered with trees, while the west side of the country has Big Mountains, but nothing green so it's not as pretty.

Friendly? New York City was just voted the friendliest city in the country.

Wow, you put all that together, you might want to live in the Central part of the country.

There are a lot of places in California aside from LA that have great weather, are laid-back, safe and beautiful. The San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco areas come to mind. Sacramento is good too and possibly more affordable but not as nice.

Boston.
Four very different seasons (Fall is my favorite), close to arts, plays, comedy clubs, jazz. Excellent transportation system (with the very unfortunate exception of the Big Dig). Excellent schools (can you really go wrong living in a place that has Harvard, MIT, Emerson, Berklee, Tufts, New England Conservatory to name a few?)

Maine, along the ocean, close to a city or large town, but not too close. Isolated from the world just enough so you're private but not alone. But now I live in crappy Plainfield, Illinois. Right by Chicago, horrible schools, and a crapload of crappy people.

I would have to say San Diego. Los Angeles is a little stuffy at times.

Texas, inexpensive and secure. Chicago is secure determination, like what the guy from above stated. yet your gonna could desire to pay an entire load of taxes in the time of your stay there. in my opinion i could have caught with Toronto, education point is larger. Or could have relocated to Vancouver.
