An insomniac is someone who suffers from insomnia. Insomnia is the inability to sleep. You're an insomniac if you cannot sleep, or if your sleeping habits are such that you cannot sleep when you NEED to sleep, generally at night. But insomnia is not a once-in-a-while thing; it is perpetual and habitual. And that is when most people usually visit their doctors to discuss breaking the insomniac patterns that seem to rule their lives, making their normal waking hours nearly unbearable.
