I've driven one of almost every year from 1985-2000 and they are a great car. Oh, yes, those were all Taxi Cabs! We regularly get 200,000 to 400,000 miles from them and we buy them USED! They do have a few weak points. The Transmissions are not the strongest in the world, and they like to eat headlight switches. Actually the 4.6 liter OHC V-8 is a hot motor and will rip to 80 very quickly. The other problem with them is that they start to smoke and burn oil after 200,000 miles or so, but if you use a quart of Lucas oil extender at each oil change it will keep it to a minimum. I would STRONGLY recommend you buy this car.

Yes. I cannot say enough about that car.
My neighbor has two, a 1994, and a 1999.
Both are over 100,000 miles, and no issues.
I have a 1997 as a winter car. I am not feeding you a line, but I do feel that this is Ford's best quality car. ( it is Made in Canada).I believe this is the case because not a lot has changed. They have honed the excellence, year over year I think.
A full size V8 car, that gets over 20 mpg.
Take a look at it's sister car, the Mercury Grand Marquis too.
The crap about the cop cars and fires are exactly that.
The cop cars were loaded with equipment in the trunk, like
flares and ammo, and hit from behind at high speed.
There are millions of Crown Vic's on the road, and they are one
of the safest cars on the road. Statistics will tell you that.

The crown vic is a great car. My mom had one which was a 87. It was in top shape and rode good up till she was T-boned in 2003 by a guy that ran a stop sign. The age of the car versus the damage totaled it.

If i remember rightly a Ford Crown Victoria is basically a Ford Mondeo with a name change For the European market(plase correct me if i am wrong) if so they are a brilliant car we had a facelift model and the Mondeo in 96/97 and it was a vast improvemnt the 1.6/1.8/2.0 Zetec engines are great too, if you go for a manuel and burn out your clutch it could prove costly at the garage though as they need to drop the subframe to shange it

Isn't that the car that was used by police departments across the country at one time and the gas tanks started exploding on them? Like the old Ford Pintos.

Yes they are good but a Chevy Caprice is better/faster/ and stops on a dime. Everycop car/taxicab/fleetcar in this era was a Caprice
