I would turn my back on any God who condemed me to an eternity of suffering just due to the fact that I didn't buy into his B.S. Any God that claims to be benevolent on one hand, and states this on the other should be doomed himself. Fear is not belief.

There is nothing wrong at all with believing in God. I'm so glad that you do. Keep the Faith, and keep strong. God knows your doing your best and He's right there next to you. We screw up all the time, but He knows we're trying. He just wants us closer to Him, like the great Daddy that He is.
As far as the first part of your question, if you die and don't believe in God but find out that He is there (taking into account that you were taught about Him and later rejected Him) only a little too late, then odds are you get to look forward to Hell. On the other hand, if God isn't there, then the entire human race is already dead.
Without God, it means there is no heaven. It means there is no place to go to after we die. It means we have no relatives or family or friends waiting for us on the other side. We just die and crumble to dust and that's it. Food for worms. It is like we were never there in the first place. The human race will end up extinct like the dinosaurs given enough time. Pretty hopeless, huh.
And so there is your choice: hope, or hopelessness.
Christianity has survived 2,000 years, and will keep going on. And it survived on the power of God, not man. In fact, man tried to kill Christanity when it first started, for 300 hundred years. But it's still here. Only God could have done that.
God bless,
Danny

The christian god doesn't represent hope and faith to alot of us. It isn't a choice between being a good person and having hope or going to hell. There are millions that think there are other choices. We can have hope, faith, and be good people and worship other gods and goddesses or not worship anything. So many christians think it's one or the other and this is where others develope an attitude against the whole religion.
There is nothing wrong with dealing with your god if that is what your heart tells you; the problem arrises when you think those that don't are wrong enough to suffer for it.

Moral ethics and religious beliefs are two separate things. Fear of God can keep some people in line. For me, I believe that we can all live forever through the legend we create for ourselves by the impressions we make in the hearts and minds of our friends and family. Believing that no God will save me makes me more motivated to live my life and not do illegal things. I could argue that I value this life more than you do b/c I don't anticipate having another one after I'm gone. Have you been on any "missions" yet? Or seen any hardships? Go volunteer at a hospital for a day. Look into the eyes of a child under 12 who's just lost mom or dad (regardless of circumstance). I would never take another life b/c I don't want to responsible for THAT look. If you think that religious people are inherently more peaceful and moral than atheists, then I have two words for you: Middle East. When they go suicide bomb someone, they all believe that their mass killings will be wiped clean by God, who will forgive them. Also, realize that people who were atheists, who go nuts and kill people, go to jail and start rotting away. A lot of them end up "finding God" b/c the idea of forgiveness and moving on to Heaven comforts them. So maybe it's religious beliefs that can help you find it easier to "knock someone off" b/c you can spin those beliefs into this idea that you will be vindicated after you die. No sane atheist would consciously make the decision to "knock someone off" knowing that it will either lead to their death or a life in jail. Those are both bad options for spending the rest of eternity (given the lack of a belief in a soul that lingers beyond death). I don't knock Christians, nor do I share their beliefs. I don't feel at all "free" from my moral obligations as a human being. Personally, I'm glad you're a believer b/c it sounds like w/o the "love of God" to guide you, you would just waste your life away and start killing people. I don't believe what you do, so I really don't see my lack of belief as an excuse to be a screw up.

Believe what you want but don't push your misquoted scripture on the rest of us.
God is unconditionally loving.
Unconditional means no conditions.
Hell is a silly idea that makes no sense.
Each of us is a part of God.
Jesus even said this. He said the kingdom of god is within you.
Who exactly is it that your judgmental God would be punishing, Himself?
Think. Don’t just parrot the nonsense you have been told about this silly little Small g god.
God is love, love judges nothing. It just loves.

trying to be a good person and religon have no connection, people who are not religious are good people!
To believe is a personal choice!
I dont believe in god so as far as im concerned when I die there is no heaven or hell. The thought that I could be wrong has never even crossed my mind!
And there is nothing wrong with having faith, if you chose to do so, then do it! I personally chose to put my faith in my partner/family and friends!

Pascal's Wager is a very old and tired -- and flawed -- argument.
It makes just as much sense in reverse: If I'm right and there's no god, then my unbelief costs me nothing. If I'm wrong and when I die I actually meet god, then he/she/it can judge me on the basis of the life that I lived, rather than on what I believed.
I have hope; but I don't get it from nothingness. As for the things that I have faith in, they are many, and they are all real.

So you seem to be saying that I should believe in God, "just in case"? Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anything wrong with believing in God, having faith or trying to be a good person. But it seems a bit selfish for someone to base their faith on the fear that they might go to hell.

I'm not 100% sure of where you are coming from, but I'll give it a try. Okay the first thing you said was "If I'm wrong about God, when I die nothing happens" What do you mean nothing happens? In this life time here on earth, all of us humans are given the choice to either a)believe in Jesus and God or b) not to believe in Jesus or God. If you believe in Jesus and God and truly ask Him to come into your heart and life and to forgive you of your sins, then when you die, you shall go to Heaven. But if you choose not to believe in Jesus and God then when you die you will be in Hell. People on this earth can't just die and that's it. You either will go to Heaven or Hell. God is the ultimate judge and He decides who goes to Heaven or Hell.
The next thing you said is confusing "If you don't believe in God and your wrong you go to Hell" Part of this is true. If you don't believe in God and Jesus (package deal) then you will go to Hell. But there again, God will decide for sure your fate. No man or woman or Christian can determine this for sure. God is the ultimate judge and He will decide your final destination. Only He knows what is truly in your heart and mind. Only He knows if you are sincerely seeking Him or only mocking Him. Mere humans don't have this ability.
No matter how you slice a pie, if you don't believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior that He died on the cross for your sins. And you don't believe that God is the father of Jesus and no man can get to the Father except thru Jesus, your eternal life will not be a good one. Faith in knowing and believing that Jesus and God do exist and they are not dead and do wonderful works even to this day! Is a important key to the kingdom.
As for your second paragraph it is rather confusing. I agree that there is nothing wrong with believing in something that gives you hope and faith. I am however assuming you are in reference to the "something" as in God? I agree that there is nothing wrong with trying to be a good person. But here is a often slip that people fall on a lot. Trying to be a good person does not automatically mean you are going to Heaven. Good works doesn't mean an automatic ticket to Heaven either. A person must believe and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior that He died on the cross for your sins as well as the willingness to do good deeds and trying to be a better person.
As for the later paragraph, "Nowhere in the bible does it say ALL prayers will be answered" This is true but let's analize what an answer is shall we? When humans think of a answer to a question people normally think of the answers being "yes" or "no". But with God, He often answers too with "wait". Most people (Christians included) don't want to hear the answer wait. Primarily because human beings tend to be impatient creatures and want the answers right now and TODAY!! God doesn't operate like that. He does not take to orders, demands, ultamatims and or threats. His will and our will are not the same; His timing and our timing are not the same; His desires for us and our desires are not the same: He has the ability to see the big picture of the past and present and future, we can only see the present. He is not bound by time like humans are with biological clocks and regular clocks we use to tell time. God is boundless and free we are not. But if we as Christians believe in Him and try our best to do good and serve the Lord, we too will be boundless in Heaven with Him.
I am not suggesting that Christians are perfect!!! Oh no, no, no!! We are far from perfect!! No one is perfect in an imperfect world! The only true one that is perfect is God and Jesus-not humans.
I hope that I was able to shed some light for you and that you can understand a little bit better. God Bless you!

God always answers prayer: Yes, No, or Wait. Apparently, you're just not listening to Him. We are told He speaks in a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12), so you can't just ask and expect Him to scream at you. Read Jeremiah 29:11-12: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me, and go to pray to me, and I will listen to you." Psalm 91:15-16 "He shall call upon me, and I will answer Him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy Him, and show Him my salvation." There's your answer.

And if you believe in the WRONG deity, you will still go to hell. Or if you believe in a deity that wants you to think for yourself. It isn't just two choices.
As for wanting to be a 'good' person; what does belief in a God have to do with that? From my own (limited) experience, those that believe are a bit more likely to be nasty people than those who don't.
