can someone explain the defense of marriage act to me..?
we don't want 2 people who love each other but are the same sex to marry.....but hetrosexuals can have a divorce rate of 50+ percent splitting families with all the problems that causes and we don;t do anything about that.....why is'nt the church and conservatives trying to defend that.

I agree. There is nothing wrong with gay marriage, and marriage doesn't work for 65% of heterosexual Americans. The Bible does not say that gay marriage is wrong, from what I have heard (I am not religious, so I wouldn't know firsthand). And gay parents probably raise better kids than straight parents, and they DO NOT end up gay any more than those from straight parents. The church is getting WAY too involved with people's lives.

I'm a bit confused by your wording, but I think what you're trying to get at is it seems like the priorities are skewed. If as conservatives they are trying to save or defend families, they should focus on the huge divorce rate first, before focussing on same-sex marriage.

Both are of equal importance and divorce is especially important as it affects more families, but importantly, more children. If all the supposed Christians, actually paid any attention to the Bible and read it, there wouldn't be divorce because Jesus has stated that two people once married cannot divorce another as they have made a covenant with God.

Its a sad case that the divorce rate among hetrosexuals is so high - like you said the divorce has terrible consequences for the families involved. But I do not support gay marriages I believe that God did not create people to be gay - other circumstances may have done that like domineering mother or father - abuse - absence of a mother/father. I would like to see the church and even government involved in protecting nucleus family. In America we can't force families to stay together, we don't have a mandatory system requiring individuals to take a course on how to have a strong marriage before getting married- I would support that but you can't enforce people to do that. But there are thousands books, conferences, and sermons that teach families on how to stay together through the thick and thin - all the help is there, couples need to reach out to those sources. If couples really wanted their marriage to stay strong without divorce, than they need to choose a good counselor to help them and dedicate themselves to be committed to their marriage. Without God's help, marriage is difficult even in Christian marriage. But get God involved and fight for what is sacred in God's eyes which is marriage.

Not everyone who gets married go to church. And why would anyone defend a 50% divorce rate?

Homosexuality is wrong and they should never be allowed to marry as the marriage arrangement was established by God between man and woman and you would be profaning it. Jehovah's Witnesses don't divorce without scriptural grounds. The rest just do not listen to God's word. Remember it was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

Romans 1:22-32
Read it.
Last verse "...they that commit such things are worthy of death."
I didn't write it. God did.
God said it and any true Christian would be doing a disservice if they suggested otherwise by endorsing same sex marriage.

No I don't hate them. You can hate the sin and love the sinner.

Granted the divorce rates between Christians and non-Christians are identical. That is another issue. One cannot justify the other.

The marriage bed was created by God to be undefiled, in the Bible book of Hebrews 13:4 it says, Let marriage be honorable among all, and the marriage bed be without defilement, for God will judge fornicators and adulterers. At 1 Corinthians 7:10 To the married people I give instructions, yet not I but the Lord, if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and yet she is agreeable to dwelling with him, let him not leave her. 13 and a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and yet he is agreeable to dwelling with her, let her not leave her husband. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in relation to his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in relation to the brother; otherwise, your children would really be unclean, but now they are holy. 15 But if the unbelieving one proceeds to depart, let him depart; a brother or sister is not in servitude under such circumstances, but God has called you to peace.
The only reason that divorce is acceptable is, if one partner or the other commits fornication -- doing any sexual act with one that is not a marriage partner.
In the bible book of Matthew 19: 3 Pharisees came up to him, intent on tempting him and saying: "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on every sort of ground?" 4 In reply he said: "Did you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female 5 and said, "For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh?" 6 So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together let no man put apart." 7 They said to him: "Why, then did Moses prescribe giving a certificate of dismissal and divorcing her?" 8 He said to them: "Moses, out of regard for your hardheartedness, made the concession to you of divorcing your wives, but such has not been the case from the beginning. 9 I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery.

Everyone seems to be missing the point in this whole "gay marriage" issue... Government should have NO SAY in ANY of our interpersonal relationships. It amazes me that homosexuals are practically begging to get some government bureaucrat to bless their relationship. We should be working to get government out of ALL of our marriages, not adding further to their control of our lives...

It goes like this:

President Bush has been making policies that really haven't been successful so far. He's afraid of losing his bankroll of religious folks who, quite frankly, are his employer.

So, he's afraid of getting fired, so he does something he thinks his boss will like, but really has no bearing on our country.

I'm a heterosexual man who would find it appalling to have this bill in our constitution. . .I mean, isn't there something important to put in there somewhere???
