Hi! Wow..I've been there and I know it's not easy. My second son didn't potty train completely until 4 1/2. I thought I would have to be sending him off to High School with a pair of big diaper pants in his backpack! Luckily he decided on his own that the whole "going in his own pants" wasn't working for him any more. Kids are like that..one day he will decide he wants to go in the bathroom.
Here are some things I would suggest to help the process:
Get rid of his pull-ups. It might be a crutch for him. He is probably mentally ready to use the bathroom.
Keep him naked, or in underwear. That way he will understand what's expected of him. Ask him every half hour if he needs to use the toilet.
Other than that..keep on encouraging him (without getting frustrated yourself) to use the bathroom. I know it's hard..but it will happen. See my profile for more information. Good luck to you and your son.

I am sure there are many ways, our children were done before they were 3. I remember that not changing them too fast was a good idea as it is quite uncomfortable. During warmer times of the year when they are wearing less clothes it becomes a bit easier. I would also tease him a bit about it and allow peer pressure do a little work. Talk to him about all his friends who are being good and going potty. Maybe the psychologist believes this will result in long term psychological problems, but I don't think so.

my oldest son was the same way. you can't force him to go...this is something that he has control over. and trying to "make" him go when YOU want him to only takes that control from him. i get sick of hearing ppl either brag about how "little Tommy was potty trained at 2 or 3, something is wrong with your kid!" and I'm sick of hearing ppl say that they HAVE to be done by 3.
children DO NOT come with a "how to" manual, they should not be treated as if they do.
your son will use the potty regularly when he is comfortable doing so, and not a moment sooner.
all you can do is be supportive, continue to encourage him. praise him when he does use the potty and just be patient. and if the pre-school gives you a hard time, tell them to put a sock in it! every child learn at their own pace...its not a race, and if they threaten to not let him return till he is potty trained, threaten to sue them for discrimination!
he'll get it, sooner or later...and you stressing doesn't help him or you.

my grandson is almost 3 years old and he is fully potty trained. I sent him in there with his papa and let him show him the works and he did sleep in pullups for about 3 months but now he is a pro,and he is not even 3 yet. We praised him when he went to the potty and he thinks he is a little grown man. not saying this will work for evryone but make it a funfull event and tell him what a big boy he is. if it does not work seek more answers from your pediatrician.

I agree that to a certain degree he'll go when he's good and ready.
To help it along you may want to not put pull-ups on him. I've heard of kids "taking advantage" of having pull-ups on because they know they can go in them. It helped my son in potty training once he realized how uncomfortable it was to wet cloth underpants.
I hope you find the best solution to help you and your child.

What I did was put underwear on and then the pull-up - that way they feel the wetness. Rinse off accidents with cold water - not a warm bath.

After drinking something make em go. after eatting do the same. be consistant. tell em they are big and build their egos. reward charts did not help with my boys. you have to be adimant about it. keep up on it and do not give up.

Let him get around with no pants of any sort and he will see the problem for himself.
