If my 15 year old son puts the effort into JROTC, will that help him to get the appointment that he wants with ROTC? He is interested in engineering with the Navy or the Air Force. We do not have a JROTC chapter at our local high school... we would have to commute 20 miles to the nearest school for all JROTC activities.

No. My daughter did not participate in JROTC and did just fine in ROTC. She got a 4 year scholarship type 1 and just finished her stint in the Air Force as a nurse.

At the two colleges I attended, one a very large school and the other somewhat smaller, they were BEGGING people to join ROTC. Few people seem to join anymore. When my Dad went through back in the late 50's, he said there were over 500 just in the Army ROTC, and more than that in the Air Force ROTC. Not very popular anymore.

yes, jrotc and civil air patrol can get him a beter shot, or 2 extra ranks if he enlists.

ROTC requires you to write about yourself and show why you would make a good soldier. JROTC would show dedication, which is key.
