In the Navy... you might get to travel the world. There are alot of opportunities and many fields to choose from that you can specialize in on top of your Navy training. But a let down is that you will be stationed on the seas for long periods, someitmes as long as 6 months. So you really gotta enjoy living on the oceans to be able to make it back in a sane manner.

As with the Airforce, there are less opportunities, but great benefits if can get in. They have the smallest enrollment in the whole military, while the Navy has alot of jobs/tasks to be done on their vessels as compared to the air-force. A good friend of mine told me just a day ago that they are removing officers from the airforce, because they got too many of them. But If you are going for a Combat Pilot, or plane maintenance and ammunition technician, then you have a better chance of getting accepted in the air force.

One other way to deicde would be to call up the local recruiters from these two branches of the military. But I warn you, they will probably sugar coat the deal to get you into something messy. Well you can't really blame them, that is their job.

My personal recommendation would be to apply for a four year University or register for a two-year Community College transfer degree program. Education is a whole lot cleaner, secure process and offers the most opportunities and benefits for your future than any or all of the militaries in the world could ever provide.

Hope my answer helped.

Both are good services to join, depending on what you want to do and the type of person you are. The first thing to do is take the ASVAB. You don't have to commit to any service to do it. The recruiter will take that score and then use it to match you to jobs that you can do. Visit both the Navy and Air Force recruiters and see what they have to offer you. What kind of job are you interested in? Don't just let them show you what they have a need for. What do you want to do when you get out of the military? College? Which service will get you into a position to have college credits before you go to college. Do you have student loans? Do you want to learn a trade that you can apply to the civilian world? Which service has jobs that will help you learn that?

Do not plan on joining the Navy and not getting on a ship. If you're not a fan of being at sea, then skip it. The Air Force has enough people signing up that they can afford to be pickier about it. Rumors run around that the Air Force is the "easiest" service to be in. In some ways, yes. In other ways, no. The Army and the Marines have harder physical requirements. The Air Force has fewer jobs for those with low test scores. The Navy has ships.

Whoa whoa whoa...all this talk about subs and aviation. First off, unless you're going into the AF as an officer (which would make you eligible to be a pilot) or as a maintenance person...you wouldn't be messing w/ planes too much unless you're on flight crew. Second off, I have been informed by MANY people that females are not allowed on subs. They are MEN ONLY crew due to the long amounts of time the crew has to be isolated together. The Navy would be good if you don't mind being out to sea and if you don't have any/many attachments on land (children or spouse). The USAF has a great quality of family life (I am an AF wife and enlisting in the AF myself). Either way you go, you get great college benifits (free tuition assistence while active duty and the GI Bill), great health and dental insurance, and help w/ living arrangements (BAH and BAS unless assigned to the dorms or a ship). The AF is a bit harder to get in to. They require a pretty high score on the ASVAB to get in, and an even higher one to get a really good job. They are also really picky about your criminal/moral background and have stricter policies about tattoos. I've had several friends in both services and all loved it. Good luck to you in choosing!

It depends on what You want. It is harder to get promoted in the AF. Because the AF is seen as the easiest of the services many people want to enlist meaning they enlist and promote only the cream of the crop. You may or may not have to travel overseas. On the upside AF living facilities (Mess Hall, Barracks, Gyms, etc) Are head and shoulders above all other services.
In the Navy it is easier to get promoted ($$) But you are almost guaranteed to go on a cruise for 6 mos unless you are stationed overseas. If your are stationed on a boat you will be going on 6 mo Cruises every 18 mos. Living facilities in the Navy range from great to abysmal. And the boat just plain sux. (although port calls are a blast) Just do a lot of research See if you can arrange a visit to the closest Air Base or Naval Base

Also take your recruiter with a grain of salt, They will only stop just short of lying to get you to commit.

Good answer Common Sense. Katie, you do not know what you are talking about. I worked for the Air Force for 26 yrs as a civilian in recruiting. You get exactly what you ask for in the Air Force. When you tell the recruiter you want to go into the area of Mechanics, when you get to basic, they give you more tests to decide what area of mechanics to put you in with WHAT YOU ASK FOR being the number one deciding factor. The recruiters out here cannot sell ALL the jobs of any branch. There are jobs that are held at the basic training level for people that don't know exactly what they want to do. If someone wants Mechanics, they don't stick them in the medical field. I know what I am talking about and I had to listen to that garbage all the time. If you ask that young man and get a truthful answer out of him, u will find out what I am saying is true. The Air Force is the best branch if you do not want to go to war. They are the last called up and stay farther from the action. They are asked to use their BRAINS and not their BRAWN.

the chair force is by yet the best branch to join since they don't do anything! They are the most family oriented if you are looking for that and in the navy, you will be away from home but do more research on what you want to go into..Im leaving for navy training in about a week.

both are good branches of the service, after figuring out what kind of job you would like to pursue in the military, you need to ask yourself which lifestlye you would like the best.......

as a member of the US Air Force who works with the Navy on a daily basis, I'm kinda glad i chose the Air Force over any other branch of the service for the simple fact that I'm lazy and I can up keep this laziness and yet still be in the military! hah, not to mention the air force is treated the best, all of the best amenities are handed over to the air force, and the air force has the most RELAXED NCO's and officers

hard decision to make as the navy and air force are great choices for women who are interested in the military, my neice is in the air force and has been since graduating high school it seems to agree with her, my son was in the navy and even though they all say the benefits are the same for each branch they are not, the navy personel recieve higher benfits for cost of living, living off base, house allotments, depending on the field you are specializing in i know the navy will guarantee that job, in the air force ,,say you want to specialize in mechanics that might entail changing the oil in the trucks,, you could any number of jobs that really have nothing to do with what you had signed up for

All the females I known to join the air force end up pregant. My friend Steve married a woman who is currently in the air force though.

The airforce is the best branch of the military. It will give you skills you can use in the real world.
