be straight forward. and also say you can still be friends. any way they will be crushed but this blow will make them not like kill themselve

Just be like, "Sorry, but I think of you more as a friend. I think you're still a great person, but I don't think we'd be the best match for a relationship." The only thing worse than you saying that is lying to him and leading him on. Just be honest with him. He'll move on quickly. :-) He's a guy, right? Lol.

Be completely straightforward and honest. Make your point so they're not confused, but don't rub it in. They'll be hurt, but they'll appreciate that you didn't drag them along or confuse them in the long run.

tell it to them straght. dont beat around the bush or the harder it will be. but at the same time be careful. let them down easy.
