he can be downstairs sleeping and he'll wake up and bark violently if someone new comes near the house like a UPS delivery man or a kid trying to steal my little brother's bike.

Dogs have more a more sensitive sense than humans do. They might hear somebody coming because their ears are tha alert. Dogs can also smell 100,000 times better than humans can. So lets say you brought your dog into a mcdonalds, you might just smell food cooking but dogs can smell the buns the lettuce the ketchup the mustard the pickles, everything. Thats how they greet other dogs, they sniff each other and they find out whether the otehr dog is a male or female, if the dog is a puppy or adult, everything. Its really amazing.

Dogs have superior hearing and an excellent sense of smell. Having both of those traits make it very possible for the dog to know that a stranger is nearby.

Dogs senses of hearing and smelling are stronger than ours. Mine can smell when a jar of peanut butter is opened at the other end of the house.

My dog does the same thing. Dogs have excellent hearing & a keen sense of smell so they know every sound better then us. That's why we call them watchdogs.

dogs have keen sense. they can sense a mile or more in distance for sense. For instance, they can sense a missing person burried under ground by sent coming up throught the soil. in addition, they have better hearing then we do.....so I think.

dogs have great hearing and a sharp sence of smell and they are mans best friend so they are going to try to protect you as best as they can
