In Proverbs 8, wisdom is personified as a woman. It tells of her attributes and her creation by God. She says " By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just... I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me... The Lord created me at the beginning of His work, the first of His acts of old." Any one seriously looking for Lady Wisdom would have to look at the 24th chapter of the apocryphal Book of Sirach. Here too wisdom is a woman, and she states that the Creator assigned her to make your dwelling in...Israel..." I took root in an honored people"( Sirach 24:8,12).

An older goddess that was gotten rid of when the Hebrews 'streamlined' their theology before wandering through the desert for 40 years. Remember? Moses was up on the mountain, getting the ten commandments, and the Hebrews were making a golden calve to worship. When Moses came down and saw what was going on, he trashed the statue. I think that this symbolizes the transition from a polytheistic to monotheistic theology. There must have been other Hebrew gods and goddesses and you may have stumbled upon the remnants of one of them. Athena is a Lady of Wisdom.

Lady Wisdom is a metaphor. One should seek wisdom which is not always the same as knowledge!
