First of all, you should know that some babies get a yeast infection, it's called thrush. It's treated with medicine. Girls and women get a yeast infection several ways. Sometimes they get one after taking antibiotics from being sick with a like a sinus or throat infection. Sometimes they get one from not eating a proper diet. Some females get it from the chlorine in a swimming pool. A female knows fairly quickly she has a problem due to itching and soreness. It can be treated with over the counter medication, or the doctor can prescribe a pill. Yes, one pill will do it. They should not have sex with anyone while they are infected because they can pass it on to a male partner. He may or may not have any symptoms, and can give it back to her after she is okay, and to other females until he is treated. If you have had sex with a female who thinks she had one, see a doctor. Male signs can also be redness, itching and burning, which get progressively worse very quickly just like females. Hope this answers your question.

Yeast is a microscopic fungus. It is commonly found in a person's intestinal tract. Most of the time it does not hurt you, but sometimes it can cause an infection. Babies can get a really bad diaper rash with yeast after being on antibiotics for awhile. The same thing can happen to adults too. You can get a yeast infection on your tongue called thrush. Some diabetics are very prone to yeast infections because they have a lot of sugar in their system. Women can get vaginal yeast infections too. It is itchy but easily treated with medication.

vaginal yeast infection is irritation of the vagina and the area around the vagina, called the vulva. It is caused by an overgrowth of the fungus or yeast Candida. Yeast normally live in the vagina in small numbers, but when the bacteria in the vagina become out of balance, too many yeast grow and cause an infection.
Vaginal yeast infections are very common. About 75 percent of women have a yeast infection during their lives. And almost half of women have two or more yeast infections.
What are the signs of a vaginal yeast infection?
The most common symptom of a yeast infection is extreme itchiness in and around the vagina. Other symptoms include:
Burning, redness, and swelling of the vagina and the area around it
Pain when urinating
Pain or discomfort during sex
A thick, white vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese and does not have a bad smell
You may only have a few of these symptoms and they may be mild or severe.

Wow. I think men are totally stupid at times. It's when the natural flora (yeast) gets overgrowth and turns into a yeast infection. It cannot be passed- its not an STD. It can happen if it gets too moist down there, or if you use the wrong soap, use anti-biotics, after a woman's period...etc. It can be treated. A lot of women get these I guess.

Yeast infections usually result from an overgrowth of a species of fungus called Candida albicans. They can occur on the skin, under nails or mucous membranes of the mouth, vagina, bronchi, and lungs
