I still use my gramma's Five Roses Cookbook (complete with notes from gramma) for all of my baking and questions I have about other kinds of cooking. I will go to Five Roses and gramma before the Internet any day.

Out of all the cookbooks I have, the one I go to the most is my Red Betty Crocker's cookbook. I have had it about 12 yrs now. But if I was buying a comparable cookbook today, I would definitely give the America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook a look. It has over a 1000 recipes and you can find it places for less than 25 bucks.

I use both. My problem is that I have never taken the time to organize the recipes I've printed from online and just have them in a rubbermaid box. I print them because I don't have a computer near my kitchen, or even downstairs. So when it comes time to find them I have to dig. But it's so easy to go to the index of a cookbook and find a recipe. There are advantages to both, in my opinion. It's nice to be able to automatically have a recipe doubled for you online, like on allrecipes.com. Also, you have the benefit of other people's experiences from the reviews since not even recipes from cookbooks are always going to turn out good.

I do both; on-line recipe hunting and cookbooks. I subscribe to three cooking magazines and typically buy six or more cookbooks a year which I sit down and read from cover to cover and then try new recipes at least three-four times per week. I take most of my creations to other people to eat--I just love to cook.

I see I'm not the only one who's a fan of Rachel Ray. Just bought her "Express Lane Meals" for my uber finicky husband. It was the only way I could get him to sit down and choose recipes he'd actually EAT.
Had been asking him to do that for months online & it never happened. But sit him down with that cookbook and a stack of post-it notes, and we had a variety of yummy meals at our fingertips.
Also a big fan of Betty Crocker's Cookbook *from, like, 1954. And I've got a few from Martha.
I do use online recipes when the cupboards are getting bare and I have to search by ingredients.

I have cookbooks that I absolutely love, and still refer to them. The pages are well worn and have food on them (lol), but I can't put them down. I still buy new cookbooks too, as I just purchased RAchel Ray's new one. To me, they provide more inspiration than websites. And sometimes while looking for recipes, I get so much pop up and ad crap, that it isn't worth it.

there a great deal of excellent recipes that you will not find online because a lot of the better cooks and chefs make their money by selling cookbooks. i know this because i am a fan of the cook Lidia who is from italy. i went to her website to try and get a recipe and what do you know low and behold the recipe was not there for the dish that i wanted. i will end up buying the book because like i said i am a fan.

I buy books for technical info and specific themes all in one place. I go to the internet when I'm not following the recipe to exacting standards or I'm creating something on my own and need inspiration and ideas.

i still like the ones in the cookbooks. I don't have to print out anything and besides, there are just too many varieties on line. They all claim to be the "best" but they are just different.

I prefer asking people I know for their recipes rather than online or books, because you usually get to taste them, then you ask for the recipe for it. So you know what it's like so you don't waste your time preparing something you don't like.
