Follow the example of Burma. they have every tree registered, an no log or timber can be traded without the approval of the government. It means a teak log left by the road side or lost log during the river transport still is the property of the government. By controlling the activity in log felling and trading through auction, logs can be strictly regulated without the need for elaborate enforcement. It is like a firewall with absolute control on computer's traffic.

While millions of tons of agricultural produce ARE being exported around the world from places like the Amazon Basin, the farmers and land owners are seeing very little of the profits. So, the only way they can scratch out any sort of decent living is to continuously expand their operations. And the only way to do that is to burn more forest.

And you can't get corporations to pay better rates for the crops, because that would raise the price of goods in the produce aisle.

The problem isn't the people cutting down the trees, its the people demanding cheap agricultural produce. So, unless you can find a way to stop the world's 6 billion people from wanting cheap produce, then we should show a little understanding to the farmer who's trying to care for his family.

It basically comes down to a choice of agriculture or nature.

What country are you from and where is the illegal logging happening at? I am assuming Brazil, but if you are in the US there isn't really much you can do.

The problem with the rain forrest logging is people vrs nature. There are people in Brazil who either do not know or do not care the effects of the rain forrest on the world climate. It boils down to save nature or let people starve. Myself, living in the US, it is easy to say save the trees. However, someone in Brazil who needs farm land to grow food probably could care less about my feelings.

Illegal logging going on for centuries in several developing countries. The effect of such logging of rainfall and other environmental aspects are not understood in these places. Awareness is just being created and it will take sometime before actual results are seen.

strap yourself to a tree

rainforest ? in brazil

Brazil society has many other more important
problems that they are not dealing with
I doubt if anyone there is really concerned with trees
Most people there are more concerned with NOT getting kidnapped and held for ransom by drug gangs.
OR basically just staying alive
The rainforest is way down on their list I think
probably just below how they can sneak out of their own failure of a country and sneak into the USA

Until people can find another way to support their families, they will resort to something illegal.
If people can be taught about eco-tourism (and if it's a workable solution where they live), then all they can see is trees taking up land they can use.
They cannot see that the land is NOT good for farming or ranching and that the more trees gone, how we all can suffer.
Good luck.
