I am moving to arizona from michigan this summer and will be bring my dog as well as a friend of mine. My friend wants to go out on the town every night we get a hotel, which would mean that the dog would be left in the room alone. She is about a 1 year old border collie/sheperd mix. She also has seperation anxiety and will bark/chew until I come back. any suggestions on what to do?
ps I tried a muzzle for the heck of it today, and she managed to get it off and chew it to pieces...lol

Put her in a large dog crate in the hotel room when you can't be there to monitor her.
As far as the barking, it sounds like you may need to get a mild tranquilizer for her from your vet. Ace would be enough to take the edge off and make her relax when you can't be there.

When all else fails, your friend can go out on the town alone...

We all travel with crates. It makes staying at places easier and cheaper. You could run up quite a tab in damages if you don't. Most places have gotten wise enough to do a room inspection BEFORE you check out!!!!!
Some obedience training would not hurt either!!!!!! She may have more behavior issue since she is a high energy dog and will get no stimulation between travel and party time. It really doesn't sound as if this is going to be a good thing for the dog.

Start crate training now- the crate will become a refuge for your pet and she will find comfort in it during a time of transition. Never leave the dog in the crate for more than a few hours at a time, and always read the instructions on how to properly crate train your pet.
It helps with potty training too. Be vigilant. at first she will bark, cry try to get out but when you reward her for being int he crate she will come to like it and will associate going in the crate with praise and a treat. Good luck.

1)Leave dog with friend in current location
Move
Have dog shipped by air to you in AZ

2) Go as planned but don't go out on town, stay with dog & try to keep routine as normal as possible.. This is the most sensible solution and if your partying friend doesn't understand, travel with someone else.

3) Kennel - but this is going to freak your dog out. Car travel, strange location, you gone, muzzled in kennel; bad combo. And I am not sure that you have enough time to properly kennel train this dog prior to move. But you need a kennel in your car for the drive. Don't ever leave your pet in a parked car.

Purchase a pet taxi or crate as they are called. Buy one big enough for her size. Also while your at the pet shop look in the toys and try to find toys you can stuff treats in them for her to play with.

During some of our trips away from home our dogs became car sick, dramamine works good on dogs, it also will make them sleepy. So will benedrel.

Same with my dog. Iwouldn't use muzzles, i think they are kind of abusive and hard for them to breathe . I think the nicest way is to buy this spray that tastes bitter and spray it all over the nice furniture so when your dog bites it, she wont like the taste, therefore wont chew on the furniture. you could try training her at home by doing the same thing to, and try getting a specialized breeder maybe? they sell the spray at petstores, and you can get them for cheap about 5 bucks.

Even hotels that accept pets won't let them stay unattended in the room. You'd have to crate the dog anyway, but if it barks and you aren't there, they can kick you out of the room that night.

Dude, have you ever heard of planes? Dogs can go on them with humans, but you might want to bring a cage when you go. For nights, cuz you don't want him to be chewing up the plane! ( plz i love animals and i don't want ppl to leave them alone like that. )

They make collapsable crates so they are easy to travel with but then you can put your dog in it when you need to, and it's easy to set up.
