No, no, no. Don't make her pull away. Start out with one short sweet simple kiss. (But not the peck type like your kissing your mom or something). After the short kiss, don't completely pull away. Keep your lips close to hers but not touching. She will let you know(and you will know) whether she wants to keep going. If it's your first time kissing her, make the move but let her take the lead. Reach over to her hair and touch the tips of it (works only with long, loose hair). Say "My god, your hair is so soft." If she smiles, she is ready to be kissed. Slowly bring your face closer., look at her eyes, then to her lips, then back to her eyes. Kiss her gently and slowly, then retreat, but remain close to her face. Look at her eyes. If she wants more, she'll reach over and kiss, I assume.
If her hair isn't long and hanging loose (at the sides), you might try to touch her upper nose with one finger and move it down over her lips before kissing. Or you might also try to touch her cheek softly with the side of your hand. I don't know whether these techniques are as effective, though.
