sleeping pills might help. Have u tried drinking chamomile tea or playing a soothing sounds CD ? I read a book right before I go to sleep and that helps me drift off faster.

You haven't got a problem sleeping if you drop off at 1am and don' wake up until 11am - that is ten hours. Your body clock is telling you that you're not really tired until 1am. If anything you may be having too much sleep!
If I were you I'd set the alarm for 8am and make myself get up even if I felt tired. Make sure you get plenty of exercise and fresh air and go to bed before mid-night, make a routine and stick to it. I think you'll find that getting up 3 hours earlier and keeping busy will be all that's required to make you drop off earlier. Medication - don't go near a GP - she/he will ask you how much sleep you want!

you are actually activating your mind which doesnt help, all that day dreaming and counting sheep, try a warm bath before bed and maybe some calming yoga exercises, then play yoga type music very low as you go to sleep. there are many sorts of meditative things that are helpful, if you get on pills you likely wont ever sleep without them.

I go to sleep at 3 A.M.

Its not because I can't get to sleep. Its because I'm just not tired enough to fall asleep until around 3 A.M.

If you're not tired enough to fall asleep until 1 A.M I would suggest waking up really early so that you're tired during the day. At around 10-11 P.M. you will fall asleep due to your tiredness. If its a case of insomnia then you're out of luck.

Have you tried relaxing breathing exercises? or getting more exercises during the day (but not too close to bedtime) I'd try natural things before meds

You are sleeping! You don't need sleeping pills. You just have to make yourself wake up earlier, so you'll be tired earlier. Happy sleeping!
