...Then why do they choose to not believe in only one major scientific theory - evolution? If all of the other theories are valid, then evolution is valid as well since the theory came about in a similar fashion as all other scientific theories, using the established forms of the scientific method.

If evolution isn't valid because of biblical scripture, then what other scientific theories aren't valid because of the bible? Other than the formation of the universe, of course.

Definition of the word "theory"
-a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain phenomena.

And "Belief"
-a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing.

Theory does not equal fact. Belief does not equal fact either.

The main problem is that paople who are not well schooled in science (i.e., most Christians) think that a 'theory' is little more than an 'idea'. One answerer wrote something like "... after theories are proven, they become 'fact'." NEWS FLASH: No theories EVER get 'proven'. All theories are approximations. Scientists know that... uneducated people do NOT know that. 'Proof' is for mathematics, coin collecting and distilling alcoholic beverages. The only way that 'proof' is ever applied in science is in the 'negative' sense. ALL valid scientific theories are 'falsifiable'. That means that all it takes is ONE instance where something occurs that is contrary to what the theory explains or predicts, and the theory gets derailed. Guess what? Evolution has NEVER been falsified, in over 150 years since it was introduced. AND, all the data that continues to come in from biology, genetics, anthropology and archeology CONTINUE to strengthen the theory, and add to our understanding of it.

With regard to 'fact'...

"In science, 'fact' can only mean 'confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent'."  ~ Stephen J. Gould

The Theory of Evolution FULLY QUALIFIES as science FACT.

Hello Cassie: The Bible and scientific knowlege are compatable, the problem is that life did not evolve. It was created, many people believe that the earth and mankind was created in a literal six days, This is not so. The creation process took a long time, Psalms 90:4 says, For a thousand years are in your eyes but as yesterday when it is past, -- 2 Peter 3:8 says However, let this one fact not be escaping your notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. This means that God's time can take thousand of years, so this is compatable with scientific knowlege. Also, in the book of Job 26:7 says He is stretching out the north over the empty place, Hanging the earth upon nothing, This was written many thousands of years, before man began to learn that the earth was a part of space. Study of the Bible is very important,
and it is compatible with scientific study

Pick one of the following:

i) There are three or four major variations on the theory of evolution, all of which demonstrate the other variations are invalid.

ii) There are some major problems with the theory of evolution. The least significant is the paleontological anomalies one has to ignore. The most significant are the biological anomalies it can't explain.

BTW, the Genesis account of Creation does fit with the "Big Bang" theory of the Universe. So that isn't an issue.

Evolution is not based on good science. Right from the beginning, how does it say life began? Where is your evidence to PROVE this. Furthermore, according to your theory, since God does not exist, he also did not create the universe. You need to be able to explain how the universe came into existence. Scientist keep coming up with theories and acting like they have proven that God does not exist. The problem is that they have to keep changing those theories after they find out they were wrong.
Evolution will eventually end up on the scrape heap of discarded foolishness.

Because it is a theory. As such, the theory is subject to the same scientific scrutiny as other theories. The theory of evolution does not stand up to the scientific scrutiny that it is worthy of credible consideration. Evolution just can't hold water. The same amount of faith needed to believe the gospel and the story of creation as described in the Bible is needed to believe in the theory of evolution.

I think of Adam & Eve as a parable. I also think that God's "days" are a heck of a lot longer than our own. So hey, we may only be on like, day 18 according to His calendar. It may be January 18th at 10:24 in the morning and 32 seconds. When it hits 33 seconds, we'll probably all be 50 years older or so.

Evolution doesn't use the scientific method to derive its theory. It is all just pure speculation, except they make it seem valid by calling themselve "scientist".

No theory is valid until it is proven. Then it becomes scientific fact.

The problem Christians have with the Theory of Evolution is that it is not taught as a theory. It is taught as fact.

I believe that God created upon this earth PRIOR TO Genesis 1:1-31, 2:1-3.

I believe God destroyed all prior creation (Gen.1:2) to bring forth man created in God's likeness (Gen.1:26), with an UNBROKEN lineage beginning with Adam.

to those whose argument involves the word theory:
theory doesn't mean "best guess"
it means that it is the excepted way of thinking
electricity is a theory.

and how can you call it "pure speculation" when there is so much physical evidence?
even in the poor way are bodies are fashioned- bad knees, bad feet, genitals in such a fragile casing.
