Teach at home, school, work, church, business, etc.Teach prayer and the bible again in school.People have to want to be polite and use manners.Read some of the posts no politeness (cursing, mocking, ect).Read the posts some people(lol) when a sincere question or answer is given.

I don't think it's over used but I think there are a lot of other ways people can be polite without using those words.
It all goes back to parenting. If parents don't teach their children manners and to treat others the way they want to be treated, no amount of saying "please" or "thank you" is going to make a difference. We also need to value life. Too many children and young adults, especially, do not value life.
I teach in the inner city and the parents teach the children to "get them before they get you" and "hit first, ask questions later". Some of the kids have the best "manners" saying "please", thank you" "yes, ma'am, no, ma'am". But then they teach them the other stuff. I don't see any way to change it until we change the adults attitude.

I teach 6th graders...in the on campus suspension class. One of the things I teach them is manners 101. It's part of the program for them to be able to go back to their regular classes.
But like the teacher before me, I agree, it goes back to the parents. I have witnessed parents come into the school office and curse like sailors to the administrators in front of their children! It's deplorable! And it's not just the men it's women too. Also, they teach them that if someone hits them, bothers them that they should haul off and hit them. Whereas we try to teach them that the instigator will get into trouble if they will tell an adult. But what do you do with parents with this type of attitude?
I do the only thing I can, and what I do best, I pray for them.
I am always polite with the children, they only learn what they see.

Live by example.

Oh, and teaching your children to be polite by example would be great too, and not acting like a spoiled jackass when dealing with others, particularly those in the service industry just because you think that the concept of "the customer is always right" entitles you to get everything EXACTLY as you want or you can treat others like garbage! (Sorry for the rant!) :)

I work in a public library. You would think that these words would be used in my workplace frequently. Not! People are so demanding and they rarely say 'thanks." It's a shame.
The employees use them all the time. As the saying goes "You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar."
A little politeness goes a long way. I like politeness. Give more please and thank yous any day.

We can make a change by setting an example ourselves. It starts at home. Mom and dad need to teach manners and to be respectful.
Thank you for asking.

I was a polite, chubby 10th grader with a crush on the cutest boy in school. He asked me out and told me it was because I always thanked him, said please, and was polite to everyone around me. Yesterday we celebrated our 31st anniversary and I still say please and thank you.
