My boyfriend died 20 years ago. He was in his mid 20's. He was burried in an above ground crypt facing north. With normal burial preparations what would he look like in his coffin now? I have always been curious as to what people look like when they have been in the grave for long time. Would I recognize him?

You definitely would not recognize him. The body is made to decompose over time so we can return to dust. Be glad of that. You should instead keep the memory of him as we was then (when you were both deeply in love and together).

No. Even with the use of preservatives, the body decomposes. A person under circumstances as you describe, would be unrecognizable within 9 months of burial.

He'd probably look like a dried-up mummy. The undertaker would have removed everything that could decompose.

That's pretty sick to think about. I would rather only remember what they looked like alive not dead.
