There was a cat who lived here before, and I have two cats. The youngest just had kittens and my oldest is not happy with her or the kittens. they got along just fine before she had kittens I cannot tell who is doing it. but I am tired of cleaning it and have children that I do not want them walking around on/in it. What should I do? Like I said, I love my cats and no one will take them, I know that it is my responsibility to take care of them, but at a point should I prioritize my kids over the animals....Oh yeah, my younger one tears up the garbage and she is so loving and sweet. ahgain, I do not know what to do!?

You need to confine the cats so they cannot do this in your living space. If this issue just started then someone is upset and you need to separate them to find out which one is doing it. They are just like kids and will act out when they are upset. Sometimes it is better to give one or more of them up to the humane society than to have one of them crapping all over your house because they don't get along anymore. As you said, your kids are more important. If you truly don't want to deal with them, and it sounds like you don't from what you say, you should give them to someone who will.

cats are extremely picky...if they dont like the litter or the box is dirty they wont use it..also if a cat is sick of under alot of stress it will stop using the box...if you have multiple cat it could be a territorial thing, the cat not using the box could be afraid to use it because another cat is exerting territorial tendencies.... try switching the litter or getting each cat its own box...if cleaning the box is the issue try the "Littermaid" self cleaning litterbox...thats what i have and it works awesome!!!!...honestly i think its the territory issue the older cat was fine w/ one roomate but now has to deal w/ a bunch of kittens running around its house.....My cats were doing the same thing last year when one of the 3 snuck out and came back prego.....I put an add in the paper and got rid of the kittens and the prob was solved....before that i gave mama and the babies thier own box and the other two thier own....that seemed to work for me....as far as the child in the garbage I havent had to deal w/ that one yet sorry.........good luck

There are three possible explanations. Either you have sick cat, a cat under extreme stress, or a dirty cat box. From your description, I would say that the stress scenario is the most likely.
Your best bet is to separate the cats, and provide each with it's own litter box. Keep the mama and kittens one place, perhaps behind a closed door, and do the same for the others. Use a good grade of scoopable cat litter, and keep the various cat boxes impeccably clean. If this does not work, you should consult a veterinarian or animal behaviorist....Friends of Animals comes to mind. Good luck!!

Stress and psychological problems are common with cats that are constantly moved around (give it time). Also if the kitty litter box gets too dirty for them -- they will protest – sometimes picking something important to you like your shoes.
Place the kitten in the kitty litter (must be used at least once) to give the little one a hint -- while its going. However, a spay bottle with water is a good training tool if the behaviour continues – but must be used during the act (not after).
If the older cat is incontinent – then perhaps it’s having medical problems and should see a vet.

I finally figured out which one of my 2 cats was going on the floor and resolved the problem by putting out two litter boxes instead of one. It seems to have fixed the problem so far. Make sure you keep your litter boxes clean...cats are really clean animals for the most part and if their litter box is too full they will go on the floor instead...and also it's territorial if the previous owners had animals.
I've also listed a site below for a forum that has problems and solutions that others have asked about or you could even post your own.... I've found it helpful in my times of need. Good luck to you. Hope it all works out!
p.s. keep the garabage out of your cats reach :o)

I'm wondering how old your oldest cat is. Your older cat has moved on and is not interested in having young one's around. You may want to look into getting a cattery cage where you can put mom and her babies, along with keeping them separate from the older cat. If you plan on getting rid of the kitties as soon as they are 8 weeks old and not have anymore kitties because you're going to get this young female fixed, then a cattery may not be what you need right now. You really need to try to keep the mom cat and her babies seperate from the older cat. You may also have to have more than one litter box. Sounds like a lot to deal with, but you as the responsible owner need to take care of your pets when you let them get pregnant. It sounds harsh but I tell everyone this. We get these animals and it is up to us, the human owners to provide for them and take care of them.
Spay and neuter your pet's.
Good luck

If your cat is not going in the litter box, your cat has a problem. Consult a vet.
And also - don't keep the garbage within reach.

Okay , Keep your 1 favorite cat no matter how much you like the others and donate the others to the SPCA. You have to remember these are animals and it sounds to me like your children's health is at risk so you tell me whats more important a fluffy animal that purs or a healthy child?
