I have 4 australian shepherds and they are very active. They are a herding dog and always need something to do-that is their nature. You have to make sure they keep busy at all times-playing,working,etc...they get bored real easy-when this happens they will resort to destroying things or become agressive.
I have what they call a springer attached to my bike where I attach it to a harness and they get to run along side my bike-they just love to run,and this lets out alot of built up energy..if you do things to keep them busy-it will calm down...always has to have a job to do.
one year old is still young-they are still considered a baby so to speak..they will have their energy for awhile but,if you give it something to do all the time to keep busy-it will calm down because it will tire out.

they are a working dog and have energy enough for 20 dogs. you better start jogging 5-6 miles a day or you will have a very unhappy dog and also a bad dog he is very smart and will find things to do on his own when you are not around, and he will destroy many many things. just remember this a tired dog is a happy dog. he was breed to run all day herding cattle or sheep they were never meant to be a house or back yard dog.

He's not getting enough exercise....if he's in the house or a small yard, then you need to make sure you take him for plenty of walks.
They are used to running around and shepherding cows and stuff...they have a lot of energy.

actual, an Aussie does no longer be happy in an condominium. they are rather energetic canine and no, catching frisbees two times in line with day does no longer be sufficient for him. He could be very bored and could in all probability practice you that via being detrimental. How plenty exercising could you be keen to grant him? he will want at minimum 2 walks in line with day for an hour and a nil.5 each and every time. Will you have the flexibility to grant him that for 10-15 years? in case you mean on a similar time as you holiday your bike, you canine is linked to the bike and working alongside, then NO, it somewhat is actual no longer a competent theory. canine can no longer in basic terms get injured them self yet they are able to injure you on a similar time as doing that. i think of you're able to look at a touch much less energetic breed. As alluring and clever as they are, they do no longer seem to be recommended for apartments. perhaps evaluate a Beagle, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or Bichon Frise. they are alluring and clever breeds yet require much less exercising and are greater suitable to condominium life.

We have an Australian Shephard/Border Collie mix who was the exact same way. Now that she's 10 yrs. old and is developing arthritis, she is slowing down. But before that is was practically nonstop energy.

All dogs no matter the size/breed need to walk. I don't mean let him out in the backyard to play with a ball, or just be on his own. I mean you take him out everyday for at least 30 minutes for a walk. These dogs especially because of what they were bred for need to get out and be exercised. This is his way of relieving pet up energy and stress. All dogs again no matter the size communicate and live by energy. You are not fulfilling his need to get rid of some of this energy. Dogs when in a pack travel each day for miles and miles to find food/water/shelter. When we have dogs in our family, we become the pack leader. It is up to us as the owner to provide these walks for our dogs. This not only uses up some of that energy, but it also gives your dog a "job". It's his way of working for the meal out of the can/bag. While in a pack of dogs, each dog walks these miles for their food/water, these items are their reward for walking the miles to get to them. Please get him out and walk him, this will also give you a chance for sometime with him to bond more. Trust me, you do this and when you get back you will see he is more settled.
My 2 Rotties and Mastiff are resting beautifully right now because of their walk this morning. I'll be taking them out again this evening before feeding time. Happy Walking everyone.

I had one growing up, and she did calm down as she got older, although she still had random crazy runs around the backyard, lol.

They slow down, when they want to. They're very loyal. So loyal, that they'd run away from a dog sitter, and dissapeared.
