It was a lion, because while Samson was on his way down with his parents to Timnah to meet the woman he wanted to marry, he came across a lion and killed it in self-defense (Judges 14:1, 2, 5, 6). Later, on his way back home with his new bride, he came across the same lion and it had a beehive with honey in it (Judges 14:8,9). Later, he used this riddle to try to stump those who would like to have taken his bride away at the wedding feast, but his new wife told his enemies the answer after threatening her life, and Samson killed 30 of them (Judges 14:10-20). The Bible does not condemn this act because the Philistines were people of the tribes who God had decreed should be destroyed anyways (Joshua 3:10). The Canaanites were composed of many different peoples, like Europeans or Americans today. It is proposed that Samson chose this woman from among them in order to make it easier to carry out Jehovah's purpose. Samson was a voluntary Nazarite, which means he could opt out of one of the three requirements of the requirements for Nazarites to keep (not to cut hair, not to touch strong drink, not to touch dead bodies). He was allowed to touch dead bodies. The things that happened to him were not because of breaking any rules.

I don't even have to crack my Bible open for this one.
Samson had killed a lion and left it's dead carcass. When he went back that way, he found some bees had made a hive in the carcass, and he ate some of the honey.
Thus, "out of the eater (the lion) came forth meat (the honey), out of the strong (the lion) came forth sweetness (the honey).
I'm not sure, but I think he asked some Philistines this question, and they got the answer from his wife-to-be. He paid the bet, but he took the booty from some of their countrymen.

It is refering to the event when the dead lion had honey inside it, but the riddle means that out of strong people comes sweetness. This ties in because Samson was strong but a sweet person, and it was him who killed the lion.

yes, the lion and the bee house in it! but Samson had not to touch anything dead! BECAUSE HE WAS a Nazarene. he had promised to not marry form outside of Israel, not touch anything unclean/dead, and not to cut his hair. hi did those 3 things and you know the end, he became blind, mocked, a victim. the victor became the victime.
he had to become blind to see his God given mission. is that so with you?
