Yes, if the lump was not there before, see your doctorstraight away in case it is something serious (like Non Hodgekins Lymphoma). If it is not serious you've just wasted a little time, but if it is something horrible you could save your life.

It could be a lymph gland if you have a bit of infection round that area, like a sore throat or spots on your face. Any lump should be checked out by the doctor, although it probably is nothing. Have you checked out the other side of your neck to see if you have a matching one on that side! if there is it will be nothing to worry about.

If it has appeared suddenly, and if there is any change in sensation or any pain, then it is worth going to see a doctor to see what he thinks might be the problem. You aren't wasting anyone's time in doing this - it's his job and you have a genuine health concern. Supposing it turns out to be nothing significant, you have still ruled out other things that need to be treated quickly and that's important.
If you need some advice before you make a doctor's appointment, contact NHS Direct (http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/) who can help you via the Internet or by phone.

Yes agree with above - most neck lumps are benign but some are more serious. Don't panic but do get it checked out - Dr will want to know how long present, painless/painful, is it getting bigger, smaller or staying the same. Do you have any lumps elsewhere (under arms, in groins, elsewhere in neck), have you had any other symptoms eg sore throat, wt loss, fever, or just gen feeling unwell.

How long have you had the lump? Has it recently developed? Don’t want to sound like a hypochondriac but pleas do not neglect this. It may be just a boil or even mumps! Have it checked out ASAP! A visit to your doc will help! You can be at ease once the diagnosis is done…. Take care.. Vas

A lump doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be something profoudly bad, but you always have to check it out. Chances are it's something simple, but you don't want to risk the chance that it could be something that isn't simple that you could have taken care of more easily the sooner it was discovered. Get to the doctor this week, no later. Good luck...

Doctors are there to tell you what any potential problems are. You are not wasting their time. Surely you don't need conformation that going to the doctor is a MUST! Its probably a swollen gland or similar upon the neck, though it must be checked.

Hi, where ever lumps are involved its always best to go to the doctors, it could just be a swollen gland but always get them checked as it could be serious.

It's probably just a swollen gland. I would just juice up on vitamin c and drink lots of water. If it doesn't go away or alleviate in a couple of days I would go see a doctor then, you probably will need some antibiotics.
