I had a guy ask me if I wanted to hook up with him sometime. I said I'd think about it but I have no idea what he is talking about. Does he mean a one night stand? I have heard people say things like: I never dated him but we hooked up at the party last week. I have heard guys say they hooked up with a girl but they wouldn't ever date her. SO WHAT DOES IT MEAN???

It is completely person dependent so you may want to get more information and if you're in this kind of a situation in the future then try to steer the conversation in a direction that you are dictating the language that is used.

To some people - especially older generations - "hooking up" could simply mean seeing each other another time.

To some people, it means some amount of physical contact, like kissing.

To yet other people, it could mean as much as having sex including intercourse and whatnot.

"Hook up" is another cultural 'slang' word which has become across the board - it means - "to get together with someone". It could be for an appointment , a date, dinner, movie - where you "hook up" is open - it just means that you and another person want to meet, or have intentions of meeting at a particular place/time. Hope this helps.

It can mean to go out on a date or meet up. Or depending on the person, they could say hook up as in having sex. Can be used either way.
