Well, theres alot of webstes but I can give you one of them. There in http://nextdaypets.com http://puppy.com and theres a website about breeds that people don't know like http://akc.org and there's http://petfinder.com or you can just adopt or save an animal.

Do a search on pet rescues in your area or visit the local pound. There are many, many great pets out there looking for home. All different ages from puppies on up, all different prices depending on the organization. Through pet rescues you can often get a pure bred of your choice that have been saved from the pound that need a loving home. Good luck and hope you find a new best friend.

Gosh...thats a wide open area! As a dog groomer, I think my first consideration would be type of animal for climate. You dont want a Husky that needs colder climate in a place that is 100* and 98% humidity. Get a dog with shorter hair. Consider the space you have for him, time you will spend with him, what you expect of him when he is grown (puppies grow up you know!). I have two dogs that are York-tese. I LOVE them and they are so easy to travel with, have great hair but still managable and VERY smart. The thing about terriers is that they are so dramatic, bossy and love to be where you are. They are the boss, but they love you as their food provider...lol.
Think of the allergy factor, grooming factor,(check prices! You will need to know this for your doggy budget for the year) gender if you are going to spay or neuter GREAT, but one is spendier than the other. Check out the parents of the dog, the previous owner, how has the dog been treated? Does he like kids? women? men? what are his quirks?
Pound dogs are AWESOME, but be prepared for hidden problems. You dont know what that dog has been thru before you got him and he may react or behave in a less than desireable way. READ READ READ...go to the library and check out books on dog behavior and care.

Best Wishes on your new best friend.
