But don't you need to see something first in order to dream about it?

Dream is a different world and you do not need the physical eyes and physical ears to experience any;thing in the dream world. But when you wake up, if your eyes are defective, you cannot see things properly because you are dreaming in the physical world

If your vision is poor in real life and you wear corrective lenses, your brain has a conception of how sharp an image can really be.

When dreaming, you do not see stuff, but visulize it as electrical impulses blast away in your brain.

WHen you wake up, you actually use you their, which assuming the refractive capacity of your cornea or lens is not conducive to acute vision, you see things blurred.

If by blurred you meant temporarily; then that may just be fluid build up or the muscles of the eye adjusting to what you look at when you wake up.
2 diff things.

When you dream you are seeing only with your brain. If your eyes are poor, they are feeding distorted information to your brain when you use them to see.

when you are dreaming you aren't actually using your eyes to see, it is simply your mind going over images,
