From personal experience, I am the first in my family (that I am aware of) that has epilepsy. I think, that just like anything in life, a hereditary factor may occur. It is a 50-50 chance that my children may be epileptic. Maybe not. Researchers however, tend to think that it is indeed, hereditary.

Yes, it can be hereditary it appears. But what it might really be is just a genetic problem that shows up in the same manner. i.e. an allergy might be passed to a child that has the effect of causing seizures if it did in the parent.

Yeh, my brother has it and it lies dormant so i could have it as well, also it can be passed down, so my children could have it as well.

yes, thats how its mostly gotten....my dad has it though, and no known relatives (except for me) have it.....
