Labs Dig; Retrievers Dig; Start an herb Garden and play with the poor pup; Chase balls; throw sticks; run obstacle courses. Wear the baby out so she won't have the energy left for the digging then give her a leather shoe or pig's ears to sleep with.

It sounds like work, but I've been told to lay and pen down "Chicken Wire" across the yard under the sod. By laying the wire under new sod, it will not get caught up while cutting the grass. Better than getting rid of the dog, if you are really attached to the pet. Often dogs are looking for the cool earth to reduce body heat through their tummy.

Most dogs will dig because they are bored. Try taking your dog for walks, or playing games. You might both enjoy it. And if you don't have time, a dog is not the animal for you.

Well, that is what dogs do. Get some toys for your dog. How about putting on mits on your dog if they won't stop digging. If my patients keep on pulling their IV lines or trach tubes out, we put mits on their hands and it keeps them safe. Try it, maybe it will work.

Your dog needs a "safe " place he/she can dig. Make a pit for the dog where he/she is allowed to dig. But please make sure you teach the dog where it is OK to do so. Not the entire yard.
