I have 2 parakeets that I have had for almost a year. One has a brown 'cere' and one is pink or flesh colored. What do I have, male or female?

I am SO sorry that you are getting such terrible answers to your question!

Absolutely for certain, your brown cere one is a female.

The pink or flesh colored? Well, I would love to see that one. It depends. Does the bird have red eyes? Sometimes their ceres color out differently than the typical keet. Also a pied or harlequin color (white with another color spotted in, or yellow with another color spotted in) can have untraditional cere colorations.

If the cere in a white or yellow keet is pink or purple, it is most likely a male. If it is off-white, it is most like a female.

I would love to see a picture. I have been raising parakeets, both English and American varieties, for a LONG time! I could give you a better estimate on the pink cered one! Let me know and I will e-mail you my e-mail address.

Not sure if you can tell the sex of parakeets or not. I know most birds will have to have sexing done at a vet's office in order to know for sure. Find an exotic vet and ask them

I understand that male parakeets have small dark markings under their beaks, around the neck area, and females do not.
