It's the trinity. Take H2O for example. It comes in 3 forms: gas (steam), liquid (water), and solid (ice). Each is still water but it's in three forms. Same with God: The Father, The Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit.
It's one of those things that as humans, we can't completely comprehend. It don't think we'll understand until we are in Heaven.

The Father is called Almighty God, and sometimes Mighty God. Jesus is called Mighty God, but never Almighty God.
The Holy Spirit is called God's finger, hand and arm.
The word 'God' in the Webster's on-line, Definition 1 is: Creator and Ruler of Universe, supreme being....Def.3) a person or thing of supreme value, 4) a powerful ruler.
In my opinion The Father is #1, and Jesus fits 3 and 4.
Isaiah 6:9, Rev. 1:8, Acts 7:50, Psalms 44:3, Isaiah 63:12, Psalms 136:12, Luke 11:20, Genesis 1:2,
Mark 12:29 Jesus answered: "The first is, 'Hear O Israel, Jehovah/YHWH our God is one YHWH.,..

Give it up: you are asking us to explain God. Nobody can do that. Many try with analogies such as that of (a) water - ice, water, steam (b) a rope made up of three strands, (c) a family -the Johnson family made up of father, mother, and son, (d) a lighted light bulb - the bulb, the wire, the generator, (e) an individual that fulfills different roles - father, son, husband. None of them really works. Jehovah Witnesses try by making Jesus a 2nd rate God. That doesn't work either.
If you accept the Bible, here's the problem:
1. There is one God.
2. The word used for God in Genesis is plural, "Let us make man in our image... "
3. In the New Testament, Jesus claimed to be God. "Before Abraham was, I AM", etc.
4. At Jesus' baptism, the Holy Spirit descended on Him, and the Father said, "This is my beloved Son...."
5. John tells us, "In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God....The word was made flesh and dwelt with us"
Get the point? Nobody can explain God.
I've been an active studious Christian for some 20 years, and so far, I do not know of anyone who can explain this. Welcome to the club!!!

There is no need to be confused; it is much easier to understand than most people believe.
In the same way that a man is the son of a man, Jesus is a son of God. The children of a being are the same kind as the parent being. In the begining, Jesus (the Word of God) was with God and he was God (John 1:1). This is part of the very Gospel message that Jesus came to the earth to reveal to us.
God is not a Trinity, as some claim; for Jesus is the first born of "many brethren" (Romans 8:29 -- see also, John 17). The trinitarian doctrine contradicts the very Gospel that Jesus came to earth to preach.

References:
"because whom He [God the Father] did foreknow, He also did fore-appoint, conformed to the image of His Son [Jesus], that he might be first-born among many brethren;" (Romans 8:29, YLT)
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God;" (John 1:1, YLT)

Jesus was given the position of *A* God at his death on earth as an eternal reward for his sacrifice. He could not have been a god prior to his earthly death becasue a God cannot die.
Consider this. Jesus was the very first of God's creations before anything else, he was. Together he and God, Jehovah created everything else. The Universe, the earth etc.
Jesus even commented about prehuman existance to someone in the Bible. Before you were, I was.
Realise too, that the Angels do not posses eternal life. If they did, they too would be Gods.

This seems to be the latest movement and one that causes this Christian Pastor some concern.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
God is the Father.
I can't help but wonder if we are replacing God as Father when we call Jesus God.
Remember one of the commandments was and is;
There shall be no other God's before me.

It is confusing. Constantine got the trinity into christianity. Before that is was a doctrine of pagans. The history is long and the study ardent and I can't help you much now. But Young Lady, you have reason to be confused. They could add the trinity by changing some wording up in scripture, but they couldn't remove from the Bible that there is Only One True God.
