I work out in a similar fashion, and in fact I'm looking to tone and not gain muscle at all.

Just toning with weights (high reps, low weight), I noticed muscle in an obvious fashion after about 5 weeks.

I imagine that if I were really trying to gain muscle, I may have actually noticed earlier because I'd be working high weights and average to low reps.

Hope that this helps.

You can definitely get into basic, good shape doing what you are doing. Assuming you are putting in a good workout and not slacking.

If your diet is in order, you might start seeing a reduction in body fat and some gains in muscle. In addition, you'll probably find that your energy levels / endorphins should be increasing.

In short, about 4 - 8 weeks you'll see results. Be sure that you change up your workout after that so as not to plateau or go stale.

Good luck and nice work.
